UPDATE: It seems it won't be all users that will be getting an update instantly - some may have to wait weeks, according to this hot-off-the-press forum post from T-Mobile: "As you will have seen HTC have announced that Android 2.2 will begin rolling out for the HTC Wildfire this week. We are pleased to confirm that customers with T-Mobile branded handsets will be receiving this update at the same time. "As with all HTC updates this will be a phased release over the coming weeks and you will receive an alert on your handset when it is ready to update." HTC only announced the new update would be available yesterday, and almost instantly Vodafone announced it was available to its users. T-Mobile joining the party means it leaves Three as the only network in the UK that hasn't confirmed its Wildfire customers will be getting the Android 2.2 upgrade. Flash Lite: better than nothing The new update brings elements like Wi-Fi hotspots, improved performance and camera tweaks to the HTC Wildfire, but Live Wallpaper and Flash 10.1 are not included due to hardware limitations. However Flash Lite is being offered as a pseudo-substitute, so a fair few videos and animations should play to enhance websites. T-Mobile recently angered a number of its users with the promise of an Android 2.2 update for its Samsung Galaxy S, only to delay it over a week, so it's good news this upgrade is coming within 24 hours of the original announcement from HTC.

Adverts on YouTube, like most VOD sites, are compulsory. At the moment, you have to sit through around 30 seconds of pre-roll before you can watch premium content. YouTube is trying to shake this up a little – on selected videos on the site, there will now be a countdown button. This will give you a chance to skip the advert after you have seen what it's promoting for five seconds. Thanks for the ad This is a promising step for VOD content, as compulsory advertising does put consumers off watching content. Given that we can all fast-forward through advertising in the home, it makes sense we have control of video advertising on websites. YouTube will also start offering users a choice of adverts to watch. This new service is optional to advertisers at the moment, and is only currently offered to those with managed accounts.

The cable company's fibre optic network always meant it had an infrastructure that was the least affected by a difference between advertised top speeds and actual averages, something that it has pointed out for years. But the company has now set up a campaign to end the dreadful practice of selling broadband to consumers with "Up to…" messaging that falls well short of real life speeds. stopthebroadbandcon.org The <a href="http://www.stopthebroadbandcon.org/" title="blocked::http://www.stopthebroadbandcon.org/">www.stopthebroadbandcon.org</A> website has been set up, and Virgin Media is asking for people to sign up and make their feelings known. Jon James, executive director of broadband, Virgin Media said: "People are paying for superfast broadband but receiving a service stuck in the slow lane. "Broadband providers need to stop advertising speeds that not a single customer can receive and we're asking people to support our call for change by signing up to stopthebroadbandcon.org. "Faster broadband means better broadband, whether you're surfing the web, watching TV online or downloading music and UK consumers deserve superfast broadband they can trust, rather than having to rely on the fairytales and broken promises of current broadband advertising." Review The ASA has already asked for a review of the practice, and <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/internet/ofcom-broadband-speed-figures-show-stark-truth-705797">Ofcom's average speed figures</A> show just how serious the problem is, with average speeds often less than a third of the advertised 'up to' speed. Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, is supporting the campaign and added: "Staying connected is central to our lives and we all deserve broadband we can trust. "I'm challenging all broadband providers to be honest with their customers and ask people to add their voice to the campaign by signing up to Stopthebroadbandcon.org." TechRadar has long been an opponent of the 'Up to..' advertising, and the more big names that back an end to a misleading (and plain wrong) approach to selling broadband the better the chance of transparency and honesty on our broadband speeds.
