Available initially in the UK and Germany, Vodafone expects it to have a positive effect on app sales, where users may have previously avoided paid-software over the hassles of adding a credit card to their account.</div>

Initially, Vodafone says, carrier billing will only be available to those who purchased their Android device through the company’s retail or online stores. The implication, however, seems to be that at some point that will be updated so that anyone slotting in a Vodafone SIM to their device will be able to charge apps to that account.</div>

Further roll-outs across Vodafone are expected in future, and we’re guessing other European carriers will follow suit. Several US carriers already offer operator billing for Android.</div>

The HTC Desire S will be available for no additional cost on the company's £30, two-year plan which includes 600 minutes, unlimited texts and half a gig of mobile data. According to TechRadar's HTC Desire S review, the phone is worthy of consideration, picking up four stars and earning praise for its slick UI and great call quality. But... However, the review did suggest alternatives, adding: "we can't help but have our gaze drawn to the HTC Incredible S and the Samsung Galaxy S2." Vodafone has also announced that it will be offering the Samsung-built Google Nexus S in either its original black chassis or an exclusive white version. That phone will be available for no extra cost on the £35 a month, two-year plan with 900 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of mobile data. On its <a href="http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=14912&post=106357&uid=101063233083#post106357">Facebook site</A>, HTC said: "Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) on Wildfire is scheduled to begin rolling out this week in Europe, reaching all areas of the world by February. Thanks for your patience as these updates roll out; we think you'll enjoy the final product." February? That's far too long to wait... so it's lucky that Vodafone has managed to bypass the usual faffing about and testing that usually goes on, and is now offering HTC Wildfire Android 2.2 update to the relevant customers. No net video, static backgrounds However, the update doesn't let you see Live Wallpapers or Flash video through the internet browser due to 'hardware limitations'. We'd imagine this is more won't rather than can't - we've seen lower-powered phones manage to perform both these functions and it hasn't been a pretty sight. We're currently calling round the other networks at the moment to see if they'll be offering the update soon, but for now it looks like Vodafone has the jump. Vodafone adds HTC Desire Z and Nokia C7 to range

The HTC Desire Z is the surprise package of the two, coming in at £35 per month on a two-year deal, making it the same as the high-end <a href="http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/htc-desire-hd-717295/review">Desire HD</A>. Admittedly the Desire Z comes with a full slide-out keyboard, but it was expected to be a shade cheaper. Follow it up with a Nokia The Nokia C7 is more in line with expectations, coming in at a more palatable £25 per month with a free phone or £20 per month if you want to pay £100 for the phone. The C7 also makes use of the new Symbian^3 OS used in the <a href="http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/nokia-n8-692448/review">Nokia N8</A>, which is a slight upgrade over the ageing S60 operating system the Finns have been using for years and years. Both are available now, so sprint down to your nearest Vodafone store to get your hands on one - or save some energy and do it online. It's actually cheaper that way too.
