A software / hardware combination consisting of a "Peel Fruit" and accompanying iOS app, the package brings a new approach to finding what to watch -- and it's unlike most other smartphone-IR options we've encountered so far. The four British networks, Vodafone O2, Everything Everywhere (Orange and T-Mobile) and Three are ready to join forces with their counterparts in France to share the costs of the £20m project. According to a report in today's Daily Telegraph, the plan is to lay out the full 31.4-mile route from Dover to Calais to enable passengers to use their phones throughout the journey. Ofcom gives go-ahead The Telegraph report says that Ofcom is ready give the plan the go-ahead, with French telecoms infrastructure company signed-up to install the tech. London is also testing Wi-Fi on the Tube, with Mayor Boris Johnson keen to make the whole city a wireless hotspot in time for the games in less than two years.

Sign up with USTREAM (see Resources). USTREAM is a service that offers free video streaming and online broadcasting to its users. Using this site, you can multicast your existing programming onto <a href="">the Web</A>. To get started, click the "Broadcast" button at the top right corner of the screen. Register with Justin.TV (see Resources). Much like USTREAM, Justin.TV is an Internet video streaming service and can be used to show existing broadcasts on the Internet with minimal work required. You can start broadcasting on Justin.TV by filling out the form at the bottom of the page to create an account. Broadcast on Stickam (see Resources). Stickam is a live video-streaming service that has more of a community feel. Not only can you multicast your own broadcast on the Internet, you can also invite several community members to appear on your stream using picture-in-picture boxes. You can sign up for Stickam by clicking the "Go Live" button at the top right corner of the webpage.

Sky, ITV and Channel 4 team up against FilmOn

FilmOn has been around since 2009 and is the brain child of billionaire movie producer Alki David. In September it was celebrating being the first IPTV venture to release TV feeds in HD in the US. However, a month later the big boys of American TV networks – Fox, CBS, ABC and NBC – managed to get the site to turn off its web streams of their channels. These feeds were halted due to copyright problems. When the US networks issued a lawsuit, David said <a href="">at the time</A>: "It's all just semantics. People need to stop being afraid of opening up doors to digital technology." Not an authorised service This hasn't happened and now UK broadcasters have got involved, with ITV saying in a statement: "FilmOn is not an authorised service and we reserve the right to pursue any site or service we believe to be infringing our copyright or using our content in an unlicensed, illegal capacity." The problem seems to be that FilmOn is rebroadcasting live TV over the web without the permission of the channels. When it comes to free-to-air channels, David believes the site is doing nothing wrong, explaining: "There is no difference between the Internet and satellite. "There's little difference between having a digital television box (and having television delivered through a computer)." It's now up to the courts to decide if this is the case.

Channel 4 has announced that it has decided to jump into the movie-streaming game with its latest venture Film4oD. 
The site is boasting over 500 movies and it is pricing its premium tiles at £3.99 a pop. 
<a href="http://www.film4.com/features/article/film4od">Film4oD does note</a> that you can watch the movie you rent as many times as you want in the 48hr allotted time. 
There are also a few special offers, which bring the price down to as little as 99p.

There are a number of titles available and there's also a smattering of Film4 funded movies, like Nowhere Boy, on the site. 
Film4 is claiming streamed movies will start in seconds once purchased, but you are unfortunately tied to watching them on a laptop or desktop for the time being. 
Lovefilm has managed to get round this by offering its services through <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/television/lovefilm-bbc-iplayer-samsung-tv-apps-get-uk-release-672429">TV apps</a> and it will soon be <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/official-lovefilm-comes-to-the-ps3-900621">appearing on the PS3</a>. 
The new service is a tie-up with FilmFlex, which is owned by Sony and Disney, and is also what Virgin Media uses to bring its on-demand movie content.
