Sony Ericsson Xperia Play launches in UK

<P align=center><img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/classifications/Mobile%20Phones/Hands%20on%20pictures/Sony%20Ericsson/Xperia%20Play/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_Play_review_13-200-200.jpg"></P><br /><P>The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the first phone with PlayStation Certification, has managed to make its way to general release today.</P><br /><P>There were suggestions that Sony Ericsson would have to delay the handset due to freight issues, but The Carphone Warehouse, Phones4u and Orange all have managed to nab some stock to start selling it today.</P><br /><P>However, it's not going to be cheap - the average cost per month of the Xperia Play is over £35 per month, with the likes of Orange offering it for a whopping £40 per month deal.</P><br /><P><STRONG>All about the evil</STRONG></P><br /><P>The handset will come with five games pre-installed with a further one available to download - although there are only six titles available directly from Sony: <EM>Crash Bandicoot</EM>, <EM>Cool Boarders 2</EM>, <EM>Destruction Derby</EM>, <EM>Jumping Jack Evil</EM>, <EM>MediEvil</EM> and <EM>Syphon Filter</EM>.</P><br /><P>The rest of the games - of which there are over 50 at launch - are mostly Android games re-purposed for the physical Xperia Play controls, but include the likes of <EM>Avatar</EM>, <EM>Age of Zombies</EM> and <EM>Nova 2</EM>.</P><br /><P>Early indications show that the Xperia Play phone has only received lukewarm critical success, with the lack of headline-games (Crash Bandicoot aside) on offer at launch meaning customers may not be overly excited to pay all that cash each month for a chunkier device.</P><br /><P>TechRadar has its own <a href="">Sony Ericsson Xperia Play review</A> going up very shortly, so stay tuned to find out if it's going to be a hit... or whether we're still going to be left waiting for the definitive PlayStation Phone.</P>

It can also be used to carry out an attack through the Internet.</P><br /><P> </P><br /><P>Kaspersky Lab, a secure content management solutions developer, announced its latest product which is the Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Mac. It protects the Mac OS against viruses, worms and Trojans and other problems on other operating systems like Windows and Linux. With the usefulness of multi-platform computers, it created a room for Mac to be known in corporate and home networks. Unfortunately, Mac is like any other computers in a network which is also prone to malware attack. Although Mac has not been infected in the past then that does not mean that they are safe now. It can be infected by Trojans or key loggers with the user unaware of the presence of the threat. Kaspersky Anti-Virus is compatible with versions of OS from 10.4.11. A Macintosh with the Intel processor, 512 MB available RAM and 80 MB available hard drive space are the other technical requirements.</P><br /><P> </P><br /><P>Kaspersky Anti-Virus has a global anti-virus database of more than 20 million malicious programs for range of platforms to protect the Mac against viruses. Radioplayer launches in the UK

<P align=center><img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com//classifications/computing/internet-and-broadband/images/radioplayer-200-200.jpg"></P><br /><P>Radioplayer has launched in the UK, a hub of all of the BBC's radio stations and a host of commercial offerings that is hoping to do for online radio what Freeview did for digital television.</P><br /><P>The radio offering is being adopted by a huge number of radio stations – 157 as of now – and each station that joins the party will adopt Radioplayer as its default player on their website.</P><br /><P>Any radio station can join the offering on the condition that the tailor their output to a digital environment – with 150 more poised to do so in the coming weeks.</P><br /><P><STRONG>Not radical</STRONG></P><br /><P>"This less about radio doing something radical and new," creator and MD Michael Hill <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/8415999/Radioplayer-radios-digital-future.html">told the Telegraph</A>.</P><br /><P>"It's about bringing what the radio industry is already doing online into one place…Successful aggregation of content can only happen when a platform is truly open like Radioplayer is and it has all of the major content partners on board – which this does.</P><br /><P>"This is how Freeview was set up – which totally changed the digital TV landscape."</P><br /><P>So, what does Radioplayer bring? <P align=center><img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com//classifications/images/Playbutton%20-200-200.jpg"></P> <br /><P>Those that still like to buy their tunes on 'physical' media such as CDs or even good old vinyl will be intrigued to find out more about an innovative new music delivery format called the 'Playbutton' badge.</P><br /><P>Whether or not this intriguing new promotional tool will take off amongst music fans, many of whom now download their tunes (legally and illegally) from the internet, remains to be seen.</P><br /><P>The Playbutton is essentially an album in a badge, featuring promo artwork from the band or musicians featured.</P><br /><P><STRONG>Wear your music<BR></STRONG></P><br /><P>The idea being that you simply plug your headphones or earphones into your new 'badge LP' and you can listen in straight away, with no need for an external MP3 player or hi-fi equipment.</P><br /><P>"It's a small object, perfect and immediate, that you can hold in your hand," Nick Dangerfield, founder of Playbutton, told BBC News.</P><br /><P>Dangerfield was aware that music buyers were becoming "tired with CDs" yet also that many still craved some kind of physical media and didn't like downloading.</P><br /><P>"I thought about giving a new use to digital files by putting them in a dedicated player. It's an iconic form that gives you the chance to show your affiliation," says the Playbutton founder.</P><br /><P>"It shows that you've purchased the music, so it shows your support for the band."</P><br /><P>An official launch is planned for February 2011, with eight initial badge LPs at lift-off, including cuts from German glitch-techno group Oval and "indietronica" band Javelin, who are signed to David Byrne's Luaka Bop label.</P><br /><P>The Playbutton contains a cheap 256MB memory card and the company's founder expects them to retail at around the £10 mark (with artists selecting what they want to charge for their own badges).</P><br /><P>Intrigued? DivX TV launches on LG connected devices

<img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com///classifications/events/ces2010/lg-first-3d-tv-200-200.jpg"> <br /><P>DivX has announced that its web TV portal, DivX TV, is now live. </P><br /><P>Originally announced way back at <a href="">CES 2010 in January</A>, the service is US-only at the moment, but will be launching in the UK and Europe sometime in 2011.</P><br /><P>There are around 10,000 videos to peruse on DivX TV, all of which can be accessed through LG devices.</P><br /><P>The LG kit in question is: BD550, BD570 and BD590 Blu-ray players and LHB335, LHB535 and LHB975 home theatre systems.</P><br /><P><STRONG>Web on TV</STRONG></P><br /><P>There's been an influx of content for connected devices of late, with Sony announcing just this week that it has bagged Sky News for its <a href="">Bravia Internet Video</A> portal. </P><br /><P>DivX TV's line-up includes web favourites Funny or Die and Bablemusic.</P><br /><P>There's also channels for business news, movie trailers and automotive stuff.</P><br /><P>Matt Milne, executive vice president and general manager, DivX said: "DivX TV is a compelling solution for manufacturers like LG seeking to differentiate their product lines with a best-in-class Internet video experience. </P><br /><P>"Consumers have responded very positively to the launch of DivX TV and the entertainment control and selection the service provides them. </P><br /><P>"We look forward to working with our partners and bringing more quality web programming to the living room." </P>

Mike and The Mechanics star launches live 3D Blu-ray

<P>Mike and the Mechanics start Paul Carrack is over at Panasonic's UK office this week to celebrate the production of Panasonic's first "end to end" 3D Blu-ray disc.</P><br /><P>Carrack, along with a number of other original band members of '80s pop legends Mike and The Mechanics (remember 'The Living Years'?) will be releasing a live 3D Blu-ray album in time for Christmas this year.</P><br /><P><img alt="Paul carrack stars in panasonic's first 'end to end' 3d blu-ray release" src="http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/classifications/images/Paul%20Carrack%201-420-90.jpg" width="420"></IMG></P><br /><P>It's the perfect Christmas present for any fans of the band that might also be planning on investing in a new 3D TV this coming Christmas.</P><br /><P>Carrack has recorded with a number of genuine British pop legends such as The Smiths, Roxy Music and Squeeze (where he took over from Jules Holland and sang lead vocals on the hit single, Tempted).</P><br /><P><img alt="Paul carrack stars in panasonic's first 'end to end' 3d blu-ray release" src="http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/classifications/images/Paul%20Carrack%202-420-90.jpg" title="Paul carrack stars in panasonic's first 'end to end' 3d blu-ray release" width="420"></IMG></P><br /><P>Panasonic informs us that Carrack now has a successful solo career "in between appearing on albums by The Pretenders, Elton John, BB King and Roger Waters and has also written songs for The Eagles."</P><br /><P>Carrack's Mike and The Mechanics' band member Peter Van Hooke, who also stars on the new 3D Blu-ray, has also recorded with Chris De Burgh and performed and recorded many albums with Van Morrison.</P><br /><P>Van Hooke is currently producing Live From Abbey Road for the TV. </P><br /><P>He has also produced this first live studio recording in 3D of a Paul Carrack session commissioned by Panasonic at Air Studios in London, filmed in 3D on Panasonic Broadcast cameras.</P>

Cowon launches world's first auto-stereoscopic 3D PMP

<P>Cowon announces this week that it is first to market with the world's first ever glasses-free (or 'auto-stereoscopic') 3D personal media player.</P><br /><P>Cowon's new 3D PMP runs Windows CE 6.0 and is fully compatible with Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000/ME, Mac OS X and Linux v2.4.</P><br /><P><img alt="Cowon launches world's first glasses-free 3d pmp" src="http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/classifications/images/cowon3d%204-420-90.jpg" title="Cowon launches world's first glasses-free 3d pmp" width="420"></IMG></P><br /><P>The Cowon 3D's display is a 4.8-inch 800 x 400 widescreen and the device is also capable out outputting 1080p video via a HDMI slot.</P><br /><P>There is the choice of two Flash-compatible browsers including Opera Mobile. Pure launches internet radio iPhone App

On the other hand, the Beam i8520 with pico projector is available for Rs. 38,000. </P><BR><BR>Of course there's vast difference between both the phones right from the hardware to the software bit. New V Show IN8810 handset can support 36-inch screen size for projection and offers up to 3 hours of projection time. Means you can watch one Hindi movie in a single charge. The LED technology based projection lamp has life of 20,000 hours so after that, the quality will drop or deteriorate. This dual-SIM smartphone supports two GSM+GSM connections. <BR><BR><BR><img align="baseline" border="0" hspace="0" src="/113553intex.jpg"><br /><P></P><BR><br /><P></P><BR><BR>Its 3.2-inch touchscreen can be used to enjoy multimedia since it carries a video player with a recorder. Simulating dawn is meant to enhance your night's sleep and the radio allows users to "wake up naturally from light on a timer that increases gradually to mimic the rising sun".</P><br /><P>We must admit that it sounds better than having your partner turn on the lights and scream at you because your iPhone made you oversleep.</P><br /><P><STRONG>Light fantastic</STRONG></P><br /><P>Pure Twilight isn't just for adults, either – it has a number of features fit for kids. These include in-built lullabies ('twinkle, twinkle, little star' and 'rock-a-bye baby' are name checked) and thanks to the LED lights inside there's also some mood lighting.</P><br /><P>Ever wanted to pretend you are in wheat field? Of course you have and now you can thanks to the colours gold and green.</P><br /><P>Want to pretend you are drowning in an ocean of despair – well, the colour blue will help you with this.</P><br /><P>Apart from fancy lighting, Pure Twilight also comes with a digital and FM radio, auxiliary input and an LCD screen.</P><br /><P>The <a href="http://www.pure.com/twilight/">Pure Twilight</A> costs £129.99 and is available now.</P>

LG tablet packing Windows 7 launches

<img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com//classifications/computing/mobile-computing/Tablets%20and%20touchscreens/lg-tablet-200-200.jpg"><br /><P>LG has taken off the wraps of its latest tablet device – the E-Note H1000B.</P><br /><P>The tablet is powered by an Intel Atom Z510 chip and also has 1GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage (SSD), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and two USB 2.0 slots and an SD card reader.</P><br /><P>The E-Note H1000B runs Windows 7 and has a capacitive touchscreen.</P><br /><P>Unfortunately the tablet seems run Windows 7 Starter Edition, which means it is limited in what it can do. </P><br /><P>And it doesn't have a camera either.</P><br /><P><STRONG>Korea opportunities</STRONG></P><br /><P>There is no word of a UK release for the E-Note H1000B, currently the device is only being shown off in Korea for the around £530.</P><br /><P>If the above specs haven't set your world alight, then don't worry as LG is rumoured to be bringing out an Android tablet in the very near future. </P><br /><P>The tablet plans had been put on hold as the company didn't think <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/lg-android-2-2-not-good-enough-for-our-tablet-720753">Android 2.2</A> was up to much when used on tablets.</P><br /><P>Which is pretty funny considering it is using Windows 7 Starter Edition for its Korean tablet.</P>
