C3 is a mapping company known for its capacity to build maps that include 3D buildings,  textures and all (like Nokia does). Unlike many mapping companies that rely on a combination of satellite photos and GPS information, C3 could build maps and textured building models with planes (see video in the full post). This is a technique that allows for multiple (relatively shallow) angles, which is necessary to create textures for every sides of buildings, and that is simply impossible with high altitude satellites. The downside of this technique is that the amount of terrain covered by a plane is much smaller than what a satellite can cover. That said, Apple can probably buy the “big picture” data from someone else. The new versions of Skype 5.5 and Skype 5.6 now no longer offer any third party tools or offers from one of Microsoft’s biggest rivals, Google. An understandable move, but let’s hope this doesn’t mean that Microsoft will bundle its own tools or offers with Skype in the future. The update also plugs a memory leak for Skype’s Firefox plugin, as well as fixes an issue that causes the app to crash when running on Windows 8 Developer’s Preview. Now Motorola has removed that little wrinkle with the Lapdock 100, a universal laptop dock for all upcoming Webtop phones including the Atrix 2. This makes for a less integrated unit, but the cross-device advantages should be enough to offset that in the minds of most consumers. Some phones, like the BIONIC, will need an OTA software upgrade to use the new accessory. The Lapdock 100 keeps the 10-inch screen and dedicated Android buttons from the previous docks. The Bionic does have a dual-core CPU and 4G LTE inside as well as what we are hearing to be a pretty large battery so that could explain some of the size differences. We did see some battery usage images leak but for now I’m taking those with a grain of salt. Either way I just want this phone to arrive already so I can enjoy it, review it, and possibly move on to bigger and better things. Droid HD or HTC Vigor anyone?</div> </div> </div>
