Skype's running a competition to find the one chat style to rule them all, and it starts taking custom CSS submissions April 8th. The contest has three rounds, with one judges' and one people's choice in each, followed by the selection of a grand prize winner from the six finalists. People's champs get an Apple TV and those picked by the judges snag a WiFi iPad 2, and all the winners get a copy of CSS3 for Web Designers and a year's subscription to Skype Unlimited World Extra. The grand prize is an eleven-inch MacBook Air, an iPad2, and the ego boost that comes with knowing your chat style forged in the flames of competition will be included in a coming release of Skype. The rise and rise of the MMO has underlined the power of PC gaming. Along with real time strategies and the still vibrant first-person shooter scene, it remains one of the planet's most popular gaming platforms. However, despite Windows remaining hugely influential, Microsoft's reluctance to embrace the PC as a gaming platform in recent years has angered many. Green shoots A relaunched Games for Windows marketplace was a recent fillip, but it is the hiring of Rahul Sood, the founder of gaming computer brand Voodoo PC and previously an outspoken critic of the Redmond company's attitude towards PC gaming that underlines what TechRadar has been told about Windows 8. "Windows 8 will represent a real new push into PC gaming," the source told TechRadar. "Gaming will be a key component for the whole OS." Along with the new store, Microsoft has shown signs of waking from its PC gaming slumber in the course of 2010. The announcement of a new Age of Empires game, along with Fable 3 and an updated Flight Simulator appear to be the green shoots of the new attitude. Steam clean The landscape will not be easy for Microsoft however, with Valve's Steam now a dominant figure in PC gaming. Valve – the company behind the wonderful Half Life series, along with Counter Strike, Portal and Team Fortress – has established Steam as a gaming store, delivery network and hub for online gamers. Microsoft will have the advantage of mass market, and could leverage the strides it has taken with online gaming on the Xbox 360 to try to win back the hearts and minds of the PC gamer. And Windows 8 would appear the perfect opportunity to begin the hard slog.

Galapagos represents Sharp's big push into content delivery plus hardware, with a host of devices planned starting with the eagerly awaited tablet and, of course, 3D mobile phones. There are, as yet, no plans to bring Galapagos to the UK, but it is an indication of the size of Sharp that it believes it can take on the likes of Korean giant Samsung and, of course, Apple. Android The Galapagos tablet will bring the now-familiar Android operating system, and will be available in both a 10.8-inch version and a Streak-like 5.5 inch size which is akin to an oversized smartphone. Price wise, the 10.8-inch model will apparently be somewhere around the £500 mark with the smaller version considerably less. The tablet will reportedly not allow users to install their own software, but will run Sharp's own e-reader software and media player. Sharp is hoping a tie-up with a major Japanese content owner will give them the lead in its home market, and has targeted one million sales for the tablet. Whether that eventually leads to a global launch remains to be seen.

This is in the sense of making up a perceived persona for yourself and not, of course, burning your own personal logo onto your forehead. Which would be both painful and stupid. Brand yourself better LinkedIn wants us all to understand how "own personal brand" works and also how we might "make it stronger. As such, LinkedIn has employed the branding expertise of Andrzej Moyseowicz (Saatchi & Saatchi), Katie Ledger (former BBC Click journalist), John Woodward (Publicis Worldwide) and David Midgely (INSEAD). "Your personal brand has never been so important. In a competitive job market it can sometimes be difficult to stand out from the competition," reads the PR blurb. "People spend a lot of time perfecting CVs and interview techniques but often miss a very obvious trick. Recruiters and HR professionals will often check a person's online profile before putting them forward for a job, or even before returning a phone call, this means that employers have potentially formed a first impression long before you are called in for interview."
