Nokia is known as for making the world’s greenest phones and is consistently making an effort to encourage recycling and environmental-friendly behavior, with publicity stints like the mobile phone man. Well, the Eco profile for its upcoming phone, the N9, has been released online, and we get to see how green this MeeGo phone really is. Judging by what was in the Eco profile, we’re impressed.</div>

Release date info for Nokia's sweet slab of Meego has been scarce, but now Orange Switzerland's webpage announces the N9 is coming its way September 15th. Last month Swedish carrier 3 Group promised it would arrive there September 23rd, while some retailer in Kazakhstan is apparently listing them for sale August 19th. We're not quite ready to whip out our passport and translator for a taste of the (not) zombie OS's brains yet, but we'll keep an eye out for any more release date information as it comes.</div>

Hands on: MeeGo netbook review

<div align="center"><img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com//classifications/computing/software/operating-systems/images/meego/meego2-200-200.jpg" /></div>It's almost a year since Nokia and Intel announced they would throw Maemo and Moblin into a big mixing bowl to create MeeGo - the open source OS that can run on both x86 and ARM-based processors. <br />
While we've seen MeeGo running on devices such as the Nokia N900, we haven't had a play with it on a netbook - until now. Here it's running on an MSI unit. <br />
The netbook variation of MeeGo is a continuation of the previous Moblin efforts and the look and feel differs from the "tablet version" of the OS. <br />

Obviously this is the netbook version, which is separated into areas, seemingly called zones. Here we have the MyZone area, complete with quick access to apps in the bottom left. You can also see appointments and tasks.<br />

There's also a People zone, which would appear to be for instant messaging.<br />

Web browsing comes courtesy of the Google Chromium open source code - essentially it looks exactly like Google Chrome.The Applications zone shows you what's installed and gives you access to them. <br />

It's all rather good-looking, isn't it? Indeed, MeeGo is what we reckon a netbook-specific OS should look like. The way Windows and OS X have inculcated us, we need some kind of dashboard.<br />
And that's why we like the look of MeeGo on a netbook far more than we do <a href="http://draft.blogger.com/post-edit.g?blogID=3630952467398438450&postID=3174270315895559810">Google Chrome OS</a>. <br />
MeeGo just feels a lot more like an operating system than Chrome does. Chrome's lack of anything is just too disconcerting. And, of course, you still get the Chrome browser experience anyway. <br />

<img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/classifications/Mobile%20Phones/Nokia/Nokia_N91-200-200.jpg"><br /><P>Now, take this with a huge pinch of rumour salt, but the <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/nokia-n9-shows-up-in-detailed-photos-711213">Nokia N9</A> has popped up once more with more information on prospective specs.</P><br /><P>A Twitter conversation between two authors of Nokia blogs has yielded some surprising (but curiously detailed) specs on the forthcoming Nokia N9, prompting speculation the phone is on its way.</P><br /><P>The rumours state that not only will the Nokia N9 have a 4.2-inch OLED screen, but it will also be bringing a 1600mAh battery, and have a 1.2GHz processor.</P><br /><P><STRONG>Next-gen gaming </STRONG></P><br /><P>A dedicated gaming engine will also be able to display 190 polygons per second, which would put it way above any phone on the market at the moment, and well up there with some dedicated consoles.</P><br /><P>Other tidbits from the exchange include a 12MP camera with Carl Zeiss Optics and 768MB of RAM - like we said, very much speculation at the moment, but it's possible there might be a grain of truth, despite the sources not being revealed.</P><br /><P>We'll keep an eye on Nokia to see if something around Mobile World Congress is announced - but knowing the Finns' strategy, we'll see the first MeeGo phone unveiled at the start of 2011, but not actually get our hands on it until Q4.</P>
