The Galaxy S2 won our prestigious phone of the year award, one of several triumphs for Android, which bagged the Best OS award by eight votes to one.</div> <div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia,'Bitstream Charter',serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 24px;"> While Microsoft bets its mobile future on Mango, there's another new entrant in the mobile OS war - or at least, there might be. We have what appears to be possibly the remaining phones for the 2011 line-up. These are all renders from what I’m hearing and a few look pretty nice. The first name that caught my eye was the LG Prada K2. Does anyone remember the original LG Prada? Here’s our review from 2007 on SlashGear. Prada (left) and the new LG Victor (right) are both pretty high end devices with the Prada K2 taking charge. The Prada looks similar to the original I linked to above but don’t worry it will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and be dual-core. Its said to be sporting a 4.3″ HD NOVA Display, have a 8MP shooter on the rear and 1.3 MP on the front. Being a Prada it will be a fancy and fashionable design and have a Prada-inspired back cover. We can expect to see it around or during the holiday season.</div> <div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 24px;"> Next is the LG Victor and it may not be as powerful as the Prada K2 but it’s no slouch either. It comes powered by a modest 1 Ghz processor with a 3.8″ display. It is what I’d call a higher end mid-range phone since you need a dual-core to play with the big boys now it’s 2011. NFC is rather new to the scene but higher end phones like the Galaxy S II or the Nexus S 4G had it on board, not a lower end phone like the Gelato. I know Gelato is similar to Froyo but this phone will indeed come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread as well as a 3.2″ display, 3MP camera and a measly 800 Mhz CPU.</div> <div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 24px;"> There was a brief mention of an LG Univa that might end up being the LG Optimus Two but we’ll reserve that judgement for you. This leak also showed a Windows Phone 7 device or two but those don’t really concern us. I personally like the idea and look of the Prada K2 as long as they get the bottom bezel a little smaller. Microsoft signs up Onkyo Corp for Android-based tablet patent agreement

<p style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter" height="178" src="http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/419/onkyotab.png" width="324" />I don’t think that anyone is supposed that once Microsoft made its intentions to enforce patents for tech that is used inside many Android-based tablets that the Android world would start having to pony up licensing fees. The patent deals come from the licensing arrangement between Microsof t and General Dynamic Itronix. HTC had previously agreed to license the patent from Microsoft for an estimated $5 per device sold. Not long ago Velocity Micro also stepped up and licensed the patents from Microsoft as well.</p><br/><br/><br/><span> </span><br/><br/>Microsoft is on a roll with the announcement today that Onkyo has stepped up and licensed the patent tech as well. Velocity Micro has previously built and sold the TA117 tablet that landed in Japan last year. The patent agreement between Microsoft and Onkyo covers a broad range of patents for certain Onkyo tablets running Android.<br/><br/>It appears the floodgates are now open and companies are pouring in to license the patents to keep the Microsoft legal team from beating down their doors. Reports already claim Microsoft is making more from licensing these Android related patents than from Windows Phone. Talk about a case of if you can’t beat them, license them.

HTC Eternity has a 4.7-inch display and 1.5GHz processor

<p style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-79278" height="240" src="http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/6402/htceternity.jpg" title="htc-eternity" width="270" />Just when you figured out that the Samsung Infuse 4G with its 4.5″ display was more than what your eyes could take, or at least, is the epitome in displays on a Windows Phone 7-powered smartphone, along comes the HTC Eternity that reportedly packs an even larger display – we are looking at (pun not intended) at a 4.7″ Super LCD display at 480 x 800 resolution, with additional rumors swirling around, pointing towards a single-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, an 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 720p video capture ability, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, up to 16GB of internal memory, 512MB RAM, 14.4Mbps HSPA support, 1650mAh battery and Windows Phone 7 Mango as the operating system of choice.</p><br/>No idea on whether HTC Eternity is ever going to make it Stateside – hopefully, it won’t live up to its namesake and take an eternity to. While the Eternity’s display isn’t the largest out there as it is eclipsed by the Acer Iconia Smart’s 4.8″ display, that doesn’t mean the Eternity is anything to laugh at. Report: Apple 'likely to lose' App Store trademark case

Apple is likely to lose its court battle to prevent Amazon using the term Appstore for its mobile app offering, according to the judge presiding over the case.<br/><br/>Bloomberg reports that US District Judge Phillys Hamilton admitted that she is "probably" going to deny Apple's request following a hearing in Oakland, California on Tuesday.<br/><br/>Judge Hamilton says that Apple has been unable to demonstrate that Amazon's naming has created confusion among consumers.<br/><br/><strong>No evidence of confusion</strong><br/><br/>During the hearing, she said that Apple had so-far failed to offer "real evidence of actual confusion" among customers which is a "stumbling block" for the company<br/><br/>"I'm troubled by the showing that you've made so far, but that's where you're likely not to prevail at this early juncture," she added.<br/><br/>Amazon raised the ire of Apple back in March when it decided use the term Appstore for its Android app shop, claiming that its own App Store holds that trademark.<br/><br/><strong>Windows win?</strong><br/><br/>Amazon wants the trademark infringement case to be dismissed, clearing the way for them, and perhaps others, to use the term.<br/><br/>The court proceedings may have implications for Microsoft's ongoing battle to open up the name "Appstore" for its own Windows Phone platform.

NES emulator lands on Windows Phone 7, barred from the Marketplace

<div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" border="1" height="231" hspace="4" src="http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/6906/neswp7top15286298.jpg" vspace="4" width="400" /></div><br /> It's an important time in any young OS's life: NES emulation. Windows Phone 7 has just passed this important puberic milestone, thanks to the hard work of Matt Bettcher. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't seem to recognize the significance, and is keeping the emulator out of the Marketplace (as per its no-funny-business terms of service). Matt's trying to drum up some community support to change Microsoft's mind on the matter, and in the meantime he's planning to open source his project. There's video after the break of the emulator running inside the WP7 emulator.
