What might have sounded like a dream just a few years ago is now a reality. The new iPhonECG system is a new app that uses a case that connects to the iPhone (demonstrated in the video below with an iPhone 4) and has two electrodes that are placed either at your hands or on your chest.</div>The electrodes monitor the electrical activity of your heart, just like the nodes of an actual ECG machine would, and shows the ECG right on the screen of your iPhone. It can also record the data so a doctor can refer to it later. Additionally, it can also measure your pulse, which can come in handy whenever you want to monitor your heart rate.<br />
This new hardware and software will be showcased at CES next week, and we’ll be sure to get a glimpse of it while we’re there next week. It would be interesting to see how this works and compares with 5 or 12-lead ECG machines, so maybe we’ll bring up those questions, too. Bill Gates says mobiles can improve global health

<img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com//classifications/images/bill-gates-best-5-200-200.jpg"><br /><P>Microsoft founder Bill Gates has explained his belief that developments in low-cost mobile phone technology can improve global health.</P><br /><P>Wider adoption of mobile tech across the developing world can improve healthcare with improved diagnostic tools and more efficient immunization programs, said Gates at this week's <a href="http://www.mhealthsummit.org/">mHealth Summit.</A></P><br /><P><STRONG>Mobile phones and healthcare</STRONG></P><br /><P>"The mobile phone is pretty interesting for lots of things," Gates said in his keynote address at the mobile health event. </P><br /><P>"There's a whole lot of opportunities. I think we have to approach these things with some humility though," added Gates, noting that much of the developing world still has no internet or data connections.</P><br /><P>"I do think there's absolutely a role (for mobile technology to impact global health) but I think we have to hold ourselves to some pretty tough metrics to see if it's really making a difference or not."</P><br /><P>Gates noted how phones can impact on TB diagnosis, as well as offering better immunization programmes and patient reminders. "You could get people to take medicines regularly, that's a huge one."</P>
