Searcheeze is a new search curation tool that has just come out of private beta. Co-founded by Stefano Passatadori and Flavio Gambardella, the Italy-based startup was originally unveiled a couple of years ago as Ibrii.
With two years worth of feedback under their belts, the co-founders took Ibrii and reformatted it to create Searcheeze,  a service which made it as a finalist in European Demo Day in San Franciso this past July.
Searcheeze allows you to collect images, text and video from around the web, and save them to an online account, much like Evernote does. The difference between Evernote and Searcheeze is the fact that the latter is focused on giving users a collaborative experience when it comes to searching for and saving content from the web.
After signing up for a free account you can begin to create new topics. You have the choice of making these topics public or private, as well as inviting other users to contribute. Invitations can be sent via email or Facebook.
To actually populate your topic, you can install the handy bookmarklet which allows you to drag text, images, audio clips and video into the Searcheeze sidebar.
<img alt="searcheeze2 Searcheeze: A collaborative alternative to Evernote" data-mce-src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/ddcc157888heeze2.png.png" height="238" src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/ddcc157888heeze2.png.png" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px;" title="searcheeze2" width="520" />
You can also add text of your own through the web interface, as well as add captions to each item you save.
<img alt="searcheeze3 Searcheeze: A collaborative alternative to Evernote" data-mce-src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/34e2edc7c9heeze3.png.png" height="492" src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/34e2edc7c9heeze3.png.png" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px;" title="searcheeze3" width="520" />
Just as you can drag and drop items into the Searcheeze sidebar, you can also drag and drop them within the sidebar to rearrange their order, as well as in the web interface.
<img alt="Searcheeze4 Searcheeze: A collaborative alternative to Evernote" data-mce-src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/f2a29cc543heeze4.png.png" height="520" src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/f2a29cc543heeze4.png.png" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px;" title="Searcheeze4" width="268" />
The final page, which you can share publicly or keep private will feature all of your shared items in a sleek, clean grid, which is very easy to read.
<img alt="searcheeze5 Searcheeze: A collaborative alternative to Evernote" data-mce-src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/7c064028b1heeze5.png.png" height="500" src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/7c064028b1heeze5.png.png" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px;" title="searcheeze5" width="385" />
Each text item will have it’s own box, accompanied by the link where the text came from and the date it was saved. Videos are each displayed in their own box on the page. In our experience YouTube videos didn’t play nice with Searcheeze, but we had no trouble adding Vimeo videos to our collection.
<img alt="searcheeze6 Searcheeze: A collaborative alternative to Evernote" data-mce-src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/e83e5eba19heeze6.png.png" height="204" src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/e83e5eba19heeze6.png.png" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px;" title="searcheeze6" width="520" />All photos are displayed in a gallery, which opens up in a lightbox.
<img alt="searcheeze7 Searcheeze: A collaborative alternative to Evernote" data-mce-src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/d2e86a1aafheeze7.png.png" height="378" src="http://www.new-technology-news.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/d2e86a1aafheeze7.png.png" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px;" title="searcheeze7" width="461" />Once you’re ready to share your collection to the world you can publish it on Searcheeze and, if you’ve connected your Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and WordPress accounts, you can autopost the collections to these services with the click of a button.
So why would you use a tool like Searcheeze over Evernote? While Evernote allows you to publicly share your notes, you can only allow others to modify content if you are a premium user. Searcheeze gives you this feature for free. And as far as aesthetics are concerned, Searcheeze definitely sprints ahead of Evernote, as the final product looks far better.
Needless to say Evernote’s overall features are far more robust than Searcheeze, but the service addresses one issue in particular – making it easy for a team to contribute to any given topic.
Comparisons to Evernote aside, Searcheeze is an ideal tool for teams working on a project and need to be able to share information from around the web in a quick and easy way. For private users, it can easily be used as an online scrapbook of sorts, or online bookmarking alternative, allowing you to save clippings from all over the web, in neat organized topics.

Real Life Experience - Server Hacked!

Firewalls are the your first line of security defence against viruses, hackers, and trojans. It is extremely important to ensure is configured properly in order for this security tool to be effective. I would like to share with you my hands-on Real-life firewall experience:As an IT Security Engineer, I received a high priority call from a large corporate company and the last message was Server was hacked ! When I got there, I found out that one of the main server has a user and directory created that no one in the company can identify.There was a high-end firewall installed but guess what, the was only 1 rule set. Allow All (meaning as good as no firewall). Period. Naturally, we (security company) came in and did a technical security assessment (audit). Further, recommended and implemented the appropriate server hardening, firewall reconfiguration, IPS (Intrusion Prevention System), Anti-Virus, user security training and this company had became one of the long lasting major customer.So the lesson learned is to install a firewall and get the rules working for you. It will do you good.The firewall acts as the first line of defence against any Internet attacks. A typical firewall interfacing with 3 types of network. e.g. Internet (External), Internal Network and DMZ (Dimilitarized Zone).Some of the features of a firewall which should be configured includes the following:Able to be configured to be invisible to external parties. Do not allow "pings".Administrator password must be at least 8 alphanumeric characters and held tightly by the person that you trust.Tight Packet filter rules ( A must) They act by inspecting the "network packets" traveling between the firewall. It is sort of like a postoffice between the Internet and your office servers/PC. If a packet matches the packet filter's rules that state it is fine to pass through, the packet filter will pass the network packets to your Internal PC/Servers. If it does not match, the packet filter will drop the packet, or reject it (discard it, and send "error responses" to the source). Bottom line: ensure rules are configured properly.Sync Protection : Ensure this protection is enable to protect against Sync Attack.Typically a connection between PC and Server is establish when "3 way handshake is established". The sender PC will send a SYNC flag, then the receiving Server will send back a SYNC ACK flag. After that the sender PCwill send a SYNC ACK flag. Once these are all done, connection is established. The PC and Server can go about their business of connecting application e.g. FTP.Now an intruder will keep on sending the server with SYNC flags. The server do not know what to do with it and will just hold them. Denial of Service attack will be established when the server cannot handle the load and deny any legitimate connections to the server.IPSNowadays, a firewall is not adequate to protect the network. It should be complement with IPS which has updated signatures make access control decisions based on application content, rather than IP address or ports as traditional firewalls had done. Facebook launches new mobile web experience

<img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com///classifications/computing/internet-and-broadband/images/facebook-logo-200-200.png"> Facebook has refreshed its mobile web offering to include single sign-on functionality for social apps and has expanded the reach of Facebook Places to include location-based deals. Quashing rumours that Facebook will launch its own phone. CEO Mark Zuckerberg used a special mobile event to launch three new features for the site's 200m mobile web users. Facebook mobile users now have a one-touch "single sign-on" portal for social apps, games and sites using their Facebook login, rather than having to sign-up and log-in to each. Places comes of age Facebook Places, which allows users to tag their location, has also been opened up to developers to allow them to build the API in any social location application, such as Foursquare and Loopt. The third and final improvement also uses Places to allow local businesses to easily create special deals for Facebook users, like discounted meals or services. Users will be able to check-in, cash-in the deal and then share it with friends on Facebook.com. For example, Gap will be offering 10,000 pairs of blue jeans for Facebook users and 40 per cent off for those beyond that if you check in at the store. No Facebook Phone So not exactly the bombshell Facebook Phone many were hoping for, but some decent Foursquare-like upgrades for the mobile platforms. CEO Mark Zuckerberg told a group of bloggers and developers: "There's a rumour floating around that Facebook is going to build a phone. No. "Our goal is to make everything social. Our phone is no matter how many platforms you're building for that our app is social. The approach that we have and what we're going to stick with for a while. "We want a lot of the eco system not built by us." Privacy? While these developments are sure to enhance user experience, we can foresee another privacy storm coming, with more third parties having access to Facebook logins and user locations. Zuckerberg says "Nothing has changed" with single sign-on, and that user permissions will still be required for third parties to gain access to user location.
