Of course, YouTube has good search functionality, and at first glance, this app doesn't seem to add much, but VideoHunters goes far deeper and allows you to customize your search, as well as easily share videos with friends.<br/><br/>More compelling, VideoHunters adds a concept of themes to using YouTube. It comes with more than a hundred themes already installed, and you can modify them or create your own. Some example themes include searches, like science and technology, from today that are popular. There are themes for comedy, politics, autos, you name it. The list can be sorted by you, and themes you don't want can be deleted. You also get the usual standbys, like top rated and featured videos. Once a video is playing you can stream via AirPlay. You can save a video to favorites, or share it with friends. Themes can also be sent to other VideoHunters users.<br/><br/>I was easily able to create themes to find some classic old TV shows and some videos on places I plan to travel to this year. YouTube is full of great Photoshop tutorials, so I created a theme for those. Since the themes can be saved, when I started up VideoHunters again, everything was where I left it. The app also contains video tutorials to help you navigate the formidable feature set.<br/><br/>I found using the app mostly intuitive, but I had to watch the tutorials to figure out some of the functionality. Two of the app features, a place to save what's called 'My Videos' and 'My Favorites,' require that you establish a free account. I tested version 1.3, which experienced a few crashes. Yesterday the app was updated to 1.4 and, so far, has been quite stable.<br/><br/>If you are a YouTube zealot, this is one of the best ways I've seen to explore and customize your searches. The videos are crisp on the iPad, and the ability to use AirPlay is a plus. For many, this app will be well worth the US$0.99 price. Google to Finance $100 Million Worth of Original Programs for YouTube

<div><br/><div></div><br/><div><img alt="" class="alignright size-full wp-image-582107" src="http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/4650/youtube360.jpg" title="YouTube-360" width="225" /></div><br/></div><br/>Google plans to create 20 special channels on its YouTube site, and will spend $100 million to create original programming to populate them, according to sources who talked with the <em>Wall Street Journal</em>.<br/><br/>Like Netflix announced last month, Google wants to create its own streaming video programs, however, according to the WSJ sources, the company will create low-cost programming designed specifically for the web and YouTube, and support the shows with advertising. The sources said this will be a “major overhaul” to YouTube, which already has a lucrative advertising system in place.<br/><br/>It was unclear when Google would begin spending the money to create the new programs, but the source said that Google has visited top Hollywood talent agencies in search of ideas, and will probably end up making deals with production companies and directors to produce the content.<br/><br/>Good move, Google. The direction broadcast television is taking is beginning to look obvious, where web-connected screens are finding their way into the living room and home theater in ever-increasing numbers. In addition to a plethora of set top boxes, many new TV sets are equipped with Internet connections, and Google’s own Google TV hardware is starting to make sense in light of this latest initiative.<br/><br/>With original content produced specifically for the web inserted into the battle for viewers, it’s going to be more difficult for cable TV, broadcast and satellite TV to dominate television broadcasting as they still do. Now, instead of 500 channels and nothing on, there will be 5 million channels, and if Google has anything to do with it, there will be <em>something </em>on. It might be cats playing the piano — now dressed up in tuxedos because of their expanded budget — but it will be something. And that something is just the beginning.

YouTube getting rid of 15-minute video limit

<img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com///images/youtube-logo-200-200.jpg"><br /><P>YouTube has revealed that the 15-minute limit for non-premium content on the site is being lifted, with select users allowed to take advantage of the change.</P><br /><P>YouTube's time limit has been in place since the site began back in 2006 and has stopped indie filmmakers and the like from uploading movies without going through the official channels.</P><br /><P>Commercially, the 15-minute limit has been relaxed for professional outlets like National Geographic and 4OD.</P><br /><P><STRONG>New YouTube limits </STRONG></P><br /><P>The main reason that YouTube has been able to relax the limit is because it seems to have got its copyright problems under control, so even though it will be possible for users to upload pirated movies, measures are in place to make sure this won't happen.</P><br /><P>For the moment the new video upload limits will only be offered to those who have never flouted copyright laws.</P>

At the moment, you have to sit through around 30 seconds of pre-roll before you can watch premium content.</P><br /><P>YouTube is trying to shake this up a little – on selected videos on the site, there will now be a countdown button. </P><br /><P>This will give you a chance to skip the advert after you have seen what it's promoting for five seconds.</P><br /><P><STRONG>Thanks for the ad</STRONG></P><br /><P>This is a promising step for VOD content, as compulsory advertising does put consumers off watching content. </P><br /><P>Given that we can all fast-forward through advertising in the home, it makes sense we have control of video advertising on websites.</P><br /><P>YouTube will also start offering users a choice of adverts to watch. This new service is optional to advertisers at the moment, and is only currently offered to those with managed accounts.</P>

<img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com///images/youtube-logo-200-200.jpg"><br /><P>Miramax, distributor of over 700 movies, is looking to do a deal with Google that would see select movies streamed for free on YouTube.</P><br /><P>Miramax is in the midst of being taken over by Filmyard, after Disney decided to sell the company for $664 million.</P><br /><P>And it seems that Filmyard is already in talks with Google over Miramax's digital catalogue.</P><br /><P>The deal would see Miramax movies come to YouTube, with revenue from these films shared between Google and Filmyard.</P><br /><P><STRONG>Google gold</STRONG></P><br /><P>Miramax's back catalogue is impressive. When the company was owned by movie moguls the Weinsteins – Miramax is a portmanteau of the brother's parents' names – it was synonymous with '90s indie movies, including <EM>Pulp Fiction</EM> and <EM>Clerks</EM>.</P><br /><P>Since then its popularity has waned slightly.</P><br /><P>Although there may be some issues with digital rights, it does seem that a strategy is being mapped out by Google and Miramax to offer what would definitely be a Big Kahuna of a deal for the streaming site.</P>

Turkey lifts YouTube ban

<img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com//classifications/computing/internet-and-broadband/images/youtube-screengrab-200-200.jpg"/><p>The Turkish government has lifted a two-year ban on YouTube, following widespread criticism from Turks.</p><p>The ban was originally put in place as the Turkish authorities considered that a number of videos on the site were insulting to Turkey's founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and to the concept of "Turkishness" more generally, both of which are illegal in the country. </p><p><strong>Google talks Turkey</strong></p><p>Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yildirim, said the government had been in negotiations with YouTube-owner Google, who had agreed to remove all the offending videos in question.</p><p>"YouTube will hopefully carry out its operations in Turkey within the limits of law in the future," said Yildirim, adding "common sense prevailed".</p><p>"But we didn't get here easily - we have been through a lot in the process," he told NTV.</p><p>"I hope that they have also learned from this experience and the same thing will not happen again. YouTube will hopefully carry out its operations in Turkey within the limits of law in the future," he added.</p><p>Turkish President Abdullah Gul had criticised the YouTube ban and pressed his ministers to find a quick solution.</p><p>YouTube said in a statement: "We want to be clear that a third party, not YouTube, have apparently removed some of the videos that have caused the blocking of YouTube in Turkey using our automated copyright complaint process.</p><p>"We are investigating whether this action is valid in accordance with our copyright policy."</p><img border="0" height="1" src="http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/669/f/9809/s/f3af721/mf.gif" width="1"/><div class='mf-related'><p>
