Click the Windows "Start" button and select "All Programs." Click "SQL Server 2000" and click "Enterprise Manager" to open the console.
Click the plus sign next to "Management" to expand a list of options. Click the "Operators" icon. This lists all the database managers configured on the server. Double-click the user you want to receive database alert email.
Click the "Notifications" tab. Type an email address into the text box and click "OK." Type the SMTP server address. By default, SQL Server uses the default settings in the Microsoft Outlook configurations, if you have it installed on the server.
Click "OK" again to save the settings and close the configuration window.
