The Best Way to Hide Exposed Wires in a Home Office

Ensure that all devices are turned off and cables are unplugged before you start work.

Tape down all the wires that are not visible. This might include wires from your computer monitor, phone or printer. If these devices are on a desk, taping them to the back of the desk with any type of adhesive tape stops them from getting tangled up or getting in the way.

Use cable clips to secure wires to walls and door frames. If your wires run across or around the room, hammer them into the baseboard or skirting board with some cable clips. It is much safer and the wires will be much less visible. Run the wires around the sides and tops of door frames if necessary. Cable clips can be hammered into the frame without damaging the paintwork, as adhesive tape would do.

Use wire looms or cable tidy kits. Buy these at most hardware stores. Gather and secure your wires together and run them through the supplied loom or piping. Only the piping will be visible and it prevents your wires from getting damaged, tangled or dirty. Use a cable tidy kit or wire loom especially if you have several wires together that need hiding.

Create a wireless network. The best way to hide wires is to avoid having any in the first place. Connect your computer, printer, modem and hard drive to a wireless network to reduce the number of wires you have and make your home office more flexible; with a wireless network you can put your devices wherever you want, so long as they have access to a power outlet. Use a wireless mouse, keyboard and phone to reduce the number of wires at your workstation. These wires would be much harder to hide, so get rid of them altogether!
