Leading TV manufacturers including Samsung, Philips, LG and Sony are all heavily promoting their new 3D TV sets, with further new 3D TV announcements expected at CES 2011 from Las Vegas next month. Sony is obviously very keen to promote the fact that you can play plenty of decent 3D games on your PlayStation 3 – either right now, or in the very near future – releasing the definitive list of 3D games, which you can see below this news story. 3D on the PS3 The <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/12/20/stereoscopic-3d-on-the-ps3-full-list-of-all-3d-games-and-blu-rays/">PlayStation Blog</A> notes that there are already 19 3D PS3 games out now, with a further nine confirmed for 2011 to date. Sony rep Sid Shuman adds: "Expect to hear quite a bit more in 2011." If you fancy playing some of this year's greatest PS3 titles in 3D, including games such as Gran Turismo 5, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and the high def eye-candy that is WipEout HD, then Sony has your back. While we await the official details of the launch from Nintendo UK, let's have a look at some of the best titles that have already been announced for the new handheld. The 3DS with its non-glasses 3D display is bound to be one of the biggest gaming hardware launches of 2011, following this year's high-profile launches of Sony's Move and Microsoft's Kinect motion control kit. </IMG> Glasses-free 3D joy Games developer Andrew Oliver, one of the leading experts in 3D game development in the UK also thinks that we will soon see "3D Phones, using the same non-glasses tech as the 3DS" as well a "tablets and laptops also now adopting 3D" and streaming 3D movies. "The technology is moving so fast that we'll soon reach the point where all the claimed barriers to entry will be removed. Glasses-free will become the norm and prices will also drop to an affordable level. As time goes on there will also be much more content available and with that people will learn new tricks and make better use of the 3D experience." Nintendo is first to market with a true, affordable glasses-free 3D gaming handheld, but it is the games that we all really want to know about (and get our hands on). NGamer editor recommends "In terms of the games we're most excited about on 3DS, most of the first-party ones are looking pretty good," says Charlotte Martyn, editor of NGamer magazine. "Both in terms of the older games that are being 'rebooted' (Zelda Ocarina Of Time, Star Fox) and the more recent franchises that are continuing on the machine (Nintendogs and Cats). "Paper Mario should be great, and it'll be interesting to see whether Mario Kart can maintain the series' high standards. The playable demo of PilotWings Resort impressed us, although the design aesthetic is more Wii Sports than old-school PilotWings, which may disappoint the original PilotWings fans. "In terms of third-party stuff there are a few clear stand-out titles. Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater looks phenomenal – even if you're not a fan of the series, you'd be hard pressed not to gape during the lengthy demo video. The graphical showboating is astonishing. "Finally, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition is also looking great. And both Resident Evil titles – Revelations and The Mercenaries – should be impressive, though we've yet to go hands on with these, as we've only seen demo reels." The definitive 3DS top ten games Blitz Games' Andrew Oliver told 3DRadar when asked about the forthcoming 3DS line-up for 2011: "The 3DS also has a lot of great games coming out, like Mario Kart and Starfox so that's one to watch for sure. Yet the situation is improving with Walt Disney and Sony Pictures both allowing titles to go straight to retailers. Full HD 3D completists should check out online auction sites such as eBay, where some people are selling on discs such as Ice Age 3. Many of them are listed as coming in 2011, but three titles should be available to buy now (although, as these three have already had their release dates amended once before, we wouldn't be surprised if the situation has changed by the time you read this....). Across the pond It won't surprise many home cinema enthusiasts to know that the situation in the US is better than in the UK, with more titles available for 3D freaks to wrap their eyes around. Again, though, there are some exclusivity deals. Of most interest is the initial run of Warner 3D titles that hit stores on November 16, which included Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, Clash of the Titans and The Polar Express, plus various IMAX docs. As Warner typically makes all its discs region-free, these may be worth importing (no announcements have been made for UK releases). Again, eBay might be your best bet. Another region-free platter in the US is The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Film in 3D. Whether or not you'd want it is another matter – it runs for only 64 minutes, is presented in 720p, and England were useless in the tournament anyway. Insatiable fans of 3D should also keep a regular eye on the German software market (poke your browser at www.amazon.de). Our European cousins often get tastier BD releases than we do, and the same appears to be true when it comes to 3D. They've been enjoying the three-dimensional fun of Clash of the Titans since August, and were able to buy Street Dance 3D before UK consumers, too (even though it's a BBC Film co-production). Put simply, there are probably more full HD 3D titles available than you may have realised, you just need to know where to look for 'em...
