Samsung set up a little pop up store right next door to the big Apple Store in Sydney and then offered the very nice Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone in limited quantities for $2. Apparently, the geeks in Australia were more interested in the Android smartphone than the iPhone 4S.

According to reports, the line in front of the Samsung store is longer than the line in front of the iPhone store. I’m surprised that fights between the Android geeks and the iPhone 4S geeks didn’t break out. There was a catch to the smoking good Samsung deal though. There are only ten of the Galaxy S II smartphones offered at the bargain price each day.

Apparently, the Samsung store is up and running until this Friday and then it will close. You had better count the folks that are in line to be sure you need to stand around at all if you want one of the smartphones. The iPhone 4S will go on sale in Australia this Friday so the Samsung store is closing as the iPhone 4S gets ready to start selling.

Samsung Series 5 Google Chromebook hits the UK on Friday

The Samsung Series 5 Chromebook, the first laptop to come running the Google Chrome OS, will go on sale in the UK this Friday 24 June. The web-optimised notebook, boasting a 10-second start-up time and 8.5 hours of browsing battery life, will cost £349 for the WiFi-only version and £399 for the 3G-enabled model. The super-slim (0.79cm), lightweight (1.49kg) Series 5 Chomebook comes with just 16GB of memory as it relies on cloud storage and web-based applications, negating the need for lots of storage space. Full-sized Samsung says the 12.1-inch devices has a full-sized keyboard which comes complete with a host of web-enabled keys, including a dedicated search key. There's also a 4-in-1 card-reader on-board, an oversized multi-touch trackpad, two USB ports, a HD webcam and it's powered by an Intel Atom Core-Duo processor. The confirmed release date is great news for tech fans eager to get their first look at the Chrome OS. Both devices have been listed for pre-order since earlier this month, with Amazon touting 1st July and 1st August on-sale dates. Now check out our Samsung Chromebook: 12 things you need to know feature to get you warmed up for Friday.

Radio Shack has yet another iPhone promotion now through Friday

Yup. The boys are at it again with another $50 off normal iPhone prices. If you're feeling a bit retro you can score a 3GS for $48.99 with a contract.

A top of the line iPhone 4 with 32 GB is $248.99.

Radio Shack had a similar promotion earlier this month, but this latest offer does not include the attractive Trade and Save buy back program.

The first sale was a sell out, and a check of three of my local Shacks showed none had any iPhones in stock to sell, unfortunately. So, if you want to take advantage of this one, you'd better move fast. The promotion runs through this Friday, and getting the discount requires a new contract or qualifying renewal.

Amazon to bring Black Friday deals to UK

Amazon is set to bring its well-publicised Black Friday online deals to the UK this year, the Friday following Thanksgiving. Black Friday has gradually become America's online pre-holiday shopping day of choice over the last decade, and it looks like Amazon plans to bring the tradition across to the UK. While the term "Black Friday" sounds more like a remembrance service tradition for victims of the plague, it is certainly worth noting the date in your diary if you plan to buy books, gadgets, games, movies (or pretty much anything else that's available on Amazon) for your loved-ones this Christmas. When IS Black Friday? In more understandable calendar terms (for Brits, at least!) this means that Friday 26 November is a good day to do your Xmas shopping online on Amazon, if you plan to get the Christmas pressies in early this year. Of course, you could always do the 'usual' and leave the present shopping until Christmas Eve and then carry out the traditional panic run down Oxford Street (or round your local mall) to try to find that must-get item for the wife/mother/child/sibling/nephew. Amazon UK now promises Brits: "Unbelievable, pinch-me-to-prove-they're-real, Black Friday deals" set to be revealed next Monday (22 November) at www.amazon.co.uk/blackfriday. Hopefully other major online retailers will follow suit and start to offer some decent pre-Xmas bargains in the coming weeks.
