Our annual data consumption estimated at 9.57 zettabytes or 9,570,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes

That makes it a perfectly unwieldy thing to measure, but the traffic it generates has nonetheless been subjected to a rigorous estimation project by a group of UC San Diego academics. Their findings, published online this month, reveal that in 2008 some 9.57 zettabytes made their way in and out of servers across the globe. Some data bits, such as an email passing through multiple servers, might be counted more than once in their accounting, but the overall result is still considered an under-estimation because it doesn't address privately built servers, such as those Google, Microsoft and others run in their backyards. On a per-worker basis (using a 3.18 billion human workforce number), all this data consumption amounts to 12GB daily or around 3TB per year. So it seems that while we might not have yet reached the bliss of the paperless office, we're guzzling down data as if we were. Check out the report below for fuller details on the study and its methodology.

<a a="" broadband="" connection="" in="" larger="" result="" title="#jsArticleStepImageCredit1 rel=thinbox><IMG title=" will=""> A broadband connection will result in a larger bandwidth.Your <a class="StrongLink"" href="http://www.ehow.com/internet/">Internet connection's bandwidth determines how quickly you can download information. Bandwidth is more often bottle-necked by your Internet connection than your computer itself, and upgrading from dial-up to broadband will result in substantial bandwidth gains. You can verify the speed of your bandwidth by using a number of online tools.Speedtest.netSpeedtest.net offers a user-friendly interface, particularly when it comes to selecting a server to ping against. After the interface has loaded, you'll be presented with a map of the world zoomed into your current location. Nearby servers will be depicted at nodes, and you can test the speed of your bandwidth by clicking on one. It's important to select the nearest server as it will result in optimal speeds. Speedtest.net hosts servers around the world and can be used to verify bandwidth accurately from most locations.Cnet's Bandwidth MeterCnet will automatically ping you against the nearest server, which is a mixed blessing. In most cases, it will provide you with accurate results and it will do so quickly without you having to input a server location. However, if you feel that the results do not accurately reflect your bandwidth speed, you should try manually selecting a server with Speedtest.net. Aside from being automated, Cnet's meter is notable for its ability to compare results. After the test, you can simply click on the green "Compare Results" button to see how your connection ranks amongst others.Tracert's Bandwidth MeterLike Cnet's meter, Tracert's is automated. The main reason to select Tracert's meter is that after the test, it provides you with information and links about how to boost your bandwidth further. To you, this might be irritating, as it's essentially advertising. If you want an easy prescription on how to improve your computer's Internet performance, though, Tracert will provide a solution you can use. How to Maximize Bandwidth in Cisco Routers

Replace the antenna on the Cisco wireless router from the factory standard omnidirectional antenna to a unidirectional antenna. Firmly grip the existing antenna at the base and twist counter-clockwise until the antenna disconnects. Place the base of the new antenna at the connection point of the router and twist clockwise.Angle the oscillating tip of the antenna towards the device that is using the Internet, or the room in which the device is primarily used. Turn off the Cisco router and then restart it ten seconds later. Wait for device to start receiving new signal.Reposition the Cisco router in an environment where many devices in multiple areas need access. Keep the router as high up in the room as possible, on a high shelf or cabinet. Keep the router away from obstructions, and never inside a drawer or enclosure, to ensure the signal is being transmitted as powerfully as possible.Use only Cisco wireless cards (external and internal) in the devices being used for Internet access. Replace the card in the computers to any Cisco brand products, as the Cisco equipment is built to work together.
