This is the Samsung Galaxy S II. There are many like it, but AT&T customers, this one is yours. The carrier is now officially selling the phone on its website. They initially announced a September 18th release date for the much-anticipated superphone, so they’re only a little late.
The AT&T version of the phone is similar to other U.S. models, though it has a slightly smaller 4.3-inch screen when compared with the 4.5-inch version on other networks. Happily, the Galaxy S II is releasing with the latest version of Android, Gingerbread 2.3 (though that may not be the case for long) as well as Samsung’s TouchWiz 4. Other bullet points include a slim .35-inch profile, a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, and an 8MP rear camera with 1080p recording plus a 2MP front camera. New customers and those qualifying for an upgrade get the subsidized $199.99 price, while everyone else needs to fork over the full price of $549.99. Online shoppers can get free standard shipping, though those looking for instant gratification may want to leg it to their local AT&T retail store later today or tomorrow see if they’re available. If you do, watch out for that lock screen security hole, and make sure you know how to fix it.
