Sony shows off new DAB radios

Sony's well-received DAB radios have always been popular, and the arrival of the XDR-S16DBP portable radio and XDR-C706DBP clock radio look set to continue that. However, with the UK yet to get DAB+, the addition of that compatibility may be a little frustrating for Brits who snap up the products. Compatible, but no UK service "The XDR-S16DBP and XDR-C706DBP are the first micro radios from Sony that offer compatibility with the enhanced DAB+ digital broadcasting standard that's now rolling out across several European countries," says Sony. "Thanks to a more efficient coding scheme, DAB+ lets listeners enjoy an even wider range of radio stations, plus crystal clear, interference free digital sound. "Both models offer a generous choice of 10 DAB/DAB+ presets for storing your favourite digital radio stations, plus a further 10 FM presets. <img alt="Alarmed?" src="http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/classifications/home-entertainment/hi-fi-and-audio/radio-tuners/Sony_XDR-C706DBP_product-420-90.jpg" width="420"></IMG> "Two new DAB/DAB+/FM digital radios from Sony add more style to enjoying your favourite broadcasts. Get with the times, man. The Equus ("echoos") is legitimately high-end, and not just because each and every one comes with a 16GB WiFi iPad pre-loaded with the car's owners manual. Naturally this isn't just a boring stack of info that you'll only pull out to look up tire pressures and engine oil capacity -- oh no. This is a properly interactive experience showing you how the directional headlights work, providing videos of various interior configurations (including the reclining "First Class" rear seats with legrests), and even offering what looks to be something of a driving game. Sure, it's no Real Racing, but it is free, and you can check it out in the App Store now. Or, you can just live vicariously through the video below.

Apple fansite <a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/first-ipad-2g-case-shows-rear-camera-new-curves/">iLounge</A> is reporting that Chinese manufacturer Shenzhen MacTop Electronics has shown off a new case that has space for a rear camera to poke out its head. Thanks for the memory A second case has also emerged that seems to show room for an SD card slot – this type of expandable memory would be welcomed but it's surprising if Apple has gone down this road. None of Apple's iPods or iPhones have ever been given such a slot - and are unlikely to in the future, if we're honest. Other marks on the case show off a new alignment for the iPad speaker and a pop-out door similar to what was found on the MacBook Air. All of these 'new' features can be firmly labelled as rumours. However if true, the images of the cases would add flames to the likelihood of an iPad 2 will be released in the near future, with the first quarter of 2011 still a major possibility.

The biggest searches in any given year tend to be people typing in the name of the website they want to go to and clicking on the link rather than typing in the full url. To that end, Facebook tops the list for 2010, followed by the BBC, YouTube, Hotmail, Ebay and – brilliantly – Google. The remainder of the top ten is made up of 'you' 'games' 'mail' and 'news'. Fastest rising Of much more interest are the fastest rising searches, which really get to the heart of what the UK has been interested this year. And, frankly, it makes for depressing reading: random video chat site Chatoulette tops the list, with Formspring, a service that lets you ask questions of your friends through social networking sites, in second place. Encouragingly, iPad is the third most popular term, but the dismay creeps back in when Justin Bieber rears his irritating head in fourth. Nvidia's reference GTX570 boasts a core clock speed of 732MHz, and a memory clock speed of 3800 MHz. The "superclocked" GTX570 improves on those figures with 797MhZ, 3900Mhz and 1594MhZ, respectively. Those figures promise a very powerful DirectX 11 performance Backing Up The Promise EVGA is giving a 10 year warranty on the GEForce GTX570, with full customer service and technical support available. Under the EVGA Advanced RMO programme, the company will quickly ship replacement products for those under warranty. As added incentives to purchase the GTX570 soon, anyone buying before the end of January will receive free shipping to and from Europe. There's also a step-up programme that allows those who own EVGA products to trade them in at value for the next step up the product ladder. Last, but certainly not least, all the new GTX570 cards come with a custom precision skin and a free limited edition poster.

With Nvidia's GTX 580 finally making their official arrival on Monday, the manufacturers have reacted by rolling out their latest cards. Asus' GTX580 brings support for Full HD Nvidia 3D Vision Surround gaming – it can support three screens and is factory overclocked at 782MHz with 512 CUDA cores. That, Asus insists, means that this is the most powerful graphics card available with the Nvidia technology. 1536MB GDDR5 "It features a large 1536MB GDDR5 video memory, rated at over 4GHz," adds Asus. "The massive 384-bit memory interface opens up performance by removing data transmission bottlenecks for better hardware utilisation." Asus has also added in its popular proprietary Voltage Tweak tech which gives users a "quick and accessible way to overvolt the graphics card to its limit at 1157MHz".
