Still in disbelief that Big Red will one day be home to Palm's Pre 2? Can't say we blame you, but the evidence is certainly building. Just three months after taking a peek at inside information hinting at the smartphone's arrival on Verizon, along comes an eBay auction for a nondescript P102EWW -- known amongst the FCC hounds as a CDMA Palm Pre 2.

Android 3.0 shown off on Motorola tablet prototype

In a week that saw Android 2.3 announced and available before Christmas on the Google Nexus S, it feels odd writing about Android 3.0 so soon. But Google has shown off the OS on an as-yet-unannounced tablet device created by Motorola. Andy Rubin, Google vice president of engineering, showed off the tablet prototype and a sneak peak at Honeycomb at the All Things Digital conference. Bees knees Frustratingly, details about the tablet and the OS were scarce, but an (albeit sparse) interface was shown off, as was the lock screen and quick access to Google Maps. The Google Maps on show was the newest version of Google Maps that was announced this week. Rubin notes that the Maps 3D interface shows of the 3D processing power of the device and showed a new finger gesture to get to the 3D view of Maps. Also explained was that the device has no physical buttons at all – no home button, no back button, nothing. All the navigation is done through Honeycomb. In a little dig to the Apple iPad, he says that you can still get a little lost on the iPad with just one button. He also teased that many more tablets with Android 3.0 will be on the way.

Video: PSP phone - AKA Sony Ericsson Z1 - shown off again

The PSP Phone - which looks set to be given the official moniker of the Sony Ericsson Z1 - has been demonstrated in a new, much clearer video. The short movie from user xxmajstor gives a tour of the phone's chassis, showing off the shoulder buttons and finally extends out the game pad (something which last week's spy video couldn't manage). The phone really is a rather chunky beast, with a likely depth of around 20mm (unless the demonstrator has freakishly small hands) so you'll probably have to REALLY want to game on the go to buy this. Internally we're treated to confirmation that the Sony Ericsson Z1 will be treated to a spot of Gingerbread (Android 2.3) and has the codename of 'Zeus' although we'll be surprised if it actually emerges with that name. The PlayStation icon is there in all its glory, and in the second video is explored in a little more depth. However, don't get too excited about this, as it only shows that there's no content available yet to test - but it could be awesome when it lands. Via Engadget

Google's Nexus S and Gingerbread shown off again

That Google Nexus S phone, which we're anticipating making a lot of 'leaked appearances' in the next few weeks, has popped up again. This time there are a few more (admittedly rather blurry) photos of the Samsung-manufactured phone, as well as some screenshots, too. The interesting about is the possible specs, because some of them would be a little underpowered for a cutting-edge device. The headline stuff is as to be expected: WVGA four-inch screen, 720p video recording, and a (possibly dual-core) ArmV7 CPU. Where's all the storage? But it may also come with only 1GB of internal storage, which is much lower than the first Galaxy S, and only 328MB of RAM, though XDA Developers Forum, which showed off the device, posits that it could be 512MB. Super AMOLED 2, which offers improved performance and contrast ratios over the first Super AMOLED screen, could also be used, which would make the Nexus S a really rather decent handset. And Gingerbread will be bringing some UI changes to the Android system too: new icons at the top and more angular menu screens are in effect, although the overall operation looks pretty much the same. It can't be too long until the Nexus S moves from 'unannounced' to... well... 'announced', so we'll be bringing you our Google Nexus S review and a UK release date as soon as humanly possible. If we can hire any cyborgs to do it faster, we'll do that too.
