The popular @PaulOBrien has been hard at work with the new Archos 80 G9 Honeycomb tablet and has finally achieved root access. He does however mention that it was <span class="Apple-style-span" mce_name="em" mce_style="font-style: italic;" style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic; line-height: 1.5;">not</span> an easy task and it is still a work in progress before any sort of details and instructions will be released. Progress is progress though right?</div>

These new budget Honeycomb tablets from Archos were announced back in July and went up for pre-order late last month. For those already enjoying some Android 3.2 Honeycomb on the thin and lightweight Archos tablets the wait shouldn’t be long for full root access and the freedom we so desire.</div>

We recently received our own Archos G9 80 tablet and can see more of our hands-on coverage here. Basically the Archos 80 is a great budget tablet offering a dual-core 1.0 GHz OMAP4 processor, 8GB internal storage, the latest Android 3.2 Honeycomb and a 8″ display all for just $299. Archos isn’t know for the best hardware quality like HTC and a few others but they do offer a great deal for those on a budget. The step-by-step directions as well as the rooted kernel can be found on the XDA Developer’s thread here. Overall, the process is relatively simple, and involves putting the device into download mode, and running Odin3 to flash the rooted kernel to the phone. However, the root is regarded as “experimental” so attempt it at your own risk.  It’s also not mac-compatible at the moment so unless you have a Windows computer running Odin3 and Kies, you’ll have to wait for a ported release.</div>

Though there is a risk to rooting your device, rooting will allow you to load your own custom ROMs as they become available in the future. For the average consumer however, rooting your device may also potentially void your warranty or prevent you from receiving official support down the line. TeamWin Has Now Rooted the EVO 3D

<p style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter" height="134" src="http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/5990/evo3drooted540x224.png" width="324" />We just found out about the exploit this morning that TeamWin was working on and it looks like it didn’t take those smart devs very long because according to the latest tweet by Kevin Brucket as @agrabren he has now rooted two EVO 3D’s and one of those had the latest OTA update so both are looking pretty good.</p><br/>We are still waiting for some sort of confirmation photo and I will update as soon as anything like that appears, but for now according to his tweets (I see no reason not to believe) he has now rooted a few EVO 3D phones. The thread over at XDA is now locked but will be opened as soon as they clean all the random posts people made the last few hours.<br/><br/>So there you have it, the HTC EVO 3D has now been rooted and hopefully more good things follow this shortly. We will keep on this story and as soon as we have some hard proof of actual root we will update accordingly.
