We've seen all sorts of Steve Jobs tributes over the last few days, with most Apple Stores worldwide being showered with flowers, personal messages, and even old Macs. TUAW reader James Risley saw a unique tribute to Steve in Chicago -- two of the ubiquitous street banners in that city, showing the now-iconic portrait of Jobs on one side, and the new "Steve Jobs Apple logo" by Jonathan Mak on the other. Risley whipped out his iPhone and took this shot for posterity.</div>

Both banners say "Steve Jobs, 1955 - 2011", but on the black banner is a touch that only a Mac fan could appreciate. I<strike style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; line-height: 1.5;">t's a progress bar, like that seen when you're listening to a song in iTunes</strike>It's a horizontal scroll bar, starting in 1955 and stopped short in 2011. Above the <strike style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; line-height: 1.5;">progress</strike> scroll bar is <strike style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; line-height: 1.5;">the song title</strike> -- "Thanks, Steve."</div>

Risley only saw one banner, which was put up on October 7. This is probably a personal tribute for Jobs, but it's nice that the City of Chicago allowed it to be raised in his honor.</div>

BMW's been teasing us with its vision for electric motoroing for years, and today, folks, the trend continues. The German automaker has unveiled two concepts from its upcoming i sub-brand: the city-dwelling i3 and a rehashed version of its i8. This is the first time we've officially seen the smaller of the two, as the car formerly known as the Megacity had only been spied in an official render and during routine testing at the arctic circle. It'll haul four peeps with its 150km range (around 100 miles) and accelerate from 0-60mph in around 8 seconds. As for those with range anxiety, the German company will soothe such fears with an optional range-extending motor dubbed "REx." Either variant could land in your garage in 2013, where you'll be able top them up in 6 hours with a standard socket, or up to eighty percent in an hour if you're rocking a spiffy high capacity charger.</div>

Technically speaking, it's not actually the 28th of December in the Bay Area yet, but Sprint's already out in front with its announcement that WiMAX connectivity has been activated in and around the city of San Francisco. We were promised this development exactly three weeks ago, back when Los Angeles and Washington DC were first familiarizing themselves with the glorious new speed, and today the Bay Area, which also includes San Jose, Palo Alto and Oakland, adds to a total of 71 metropolitan markets that have been lit up with Sprint's finest wireless offering. Guess Verizon had better start fast and keep running if it wants to keep up, eh?<br />
