Microsoft shuts down utility monitoring service, proves you can't go Hohm again

Microsoft announced this week that it will be shuttering its utility monitoring service at the close of May 2012, citing a lack of consumer adoption. The news comes a week after Google announced the closing of its competing PowerMeter service. Despite the shutdown, however, Microsoft assures us all that it's still in the business of developing energy solutions for cities with a wide-ranging list of partners. Hohm itself will continue to operate through the end of May 2012, at which point its users will be rendered Hohmless.

T-Mobile Launches HSPA+ in 7 New Cities

<p style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter" height="196" src="http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/6200/tmocities540x326.png" width="324" /></p><br/>Late last night T-Mobile announced the myTouch 4G Slide and inside the press release were a few details regarding HSPA+ that is now being noticed. The cities might not be large or huge markets but upgrades are always welcome and I think I speak for everyone on that.<br/><p style="text-align: left;">It is good to see carriers like T-Mobile and Verizon updating so fast and trying to get as much speed to their users as possible. I think a few other carriers should start taking notice, or just stand around and buy T-Mobile — that works too I guess. It isn’t a big list but it is a list indeed so here you go.</p><br/>-Barnstable, Massachusetts<br/>-Chico, California<br/>-Lancaster, Pennsylvania<br/>-Ogden, Utah,<br/>-Redding, California<br/>-Vineland, New Jersey<br/>-Winchester, Virginia<br/><br/>I’m sure more will be announced soon as they are planning on bringing several new markets up to 4G HSPA+ speeds this summer. And if you’re lucky enough to live in Ogden, Utah or even Chico, California then start shouting for joy because you just got a speed boost. <p style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" class="aligncenter" height="80" src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/classifications/Mobile%20Phones/HTC/EVO_3D_3Views-200-200.jpg" width="120" /></p><br/>HTC might have announced the new Evo 3D, but now we have confirmation that it will be available from at least one UK network.<br/><br/>As usual, Vodafone has popped the soon-to-be-launched HTC phone on its coming soon page, which means no price or UK availability as yet.<br/><br/>However, this does mean the July/August UK release date (depending on whether you believe the press release or HTC's execs) still seems highly likely.<br/><br/><strong>Is 3D enough?</strong><br/><br/>The key features of the HTC Evo 3D (apart from the fact it looks like a cassette) are the 3D screen and powerful 1.2GHz dual core processor at its heart; while this is already on offer with the HTC Sensation, it will be interesting to see whether the extra 3D is enough to tempt consumers.
