Monday, the LG THRILL 4G was officially reviewed by Chris Burns. We were also informed that the device would indeed be delayed until the end of August.

The HTC Desire finally received its very own update to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) this past Monday. Also expect an update very soon for the LG Revolution; it should include many bug fixes but still no Gingerbread upgrade. A couple applications saw new versions this week as well, Skype and Google+. Skype’s update in the Android Market included support for many more smartphones. As for Google+, you should definitely check out the improvements included into Huddles and Notifications. Those who unofficially update their devices will be pleased to know that the Sony XPERIA, Neo, PLAY, and Arc will officially be supported by CyanogenMod 7 very soon.

AT&T recently informed it’s customers that it will move those with unlimited data to a tiered plan if they continue to tether their devices. This execution is most likely in response to their upcoming improved LTE data network. On that same note, the next generation Motorola ATRIX HD may run on AT&T’s 4G LTE towers.

We’ve wondered who will be the SoC (System-on-a-chip) manufacturer for Google’s next flagship device for a long while now; and now it seems we have a winner! They seem to have chosen the Texas Instruments OMAP 4 CPU; nothing is set in stone, but this is the most information we’ve seen on the device.

Wednesday, Chris Burns ran a hands-on and unboxing for the HTC Wildfire S on T-Mobile. The device hit stores later that same day. A more thorough review of the Wildfire S took place the next day (when we actually found out how good this mid-ranged smartphone actually was!) It turns out that the Wildfire S performed surprisingly well in the benchmarks with its 600Mhz single-core processor. Also unboxed this week was the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE. This sleek tablet certainly won’t disappoint us in its upcoming in-depth review by Cory Gunther.

Some interesting gadgets and applications have emerged this week, and hopefully some will set a trend into the future of technology. It turns out Motorola may be working on a new “Smartwatch” that runs Android OS. I’m not the kind of guy that wears a watch, but if this product actually takes flight then that may very well change! The Seagate GoFlex Satellite HDD now supports the Android operating system for transferring data over a WiFi connection. To use this feature, you must download the official Android app from the market. Another application worth taking a look at if you are in the market for buying a used car is VIN Viper. Just take a picture of the VIN # to get a rough price of what the vehicle is actually worth. It syncs with your Carfax account to look up any damages and incorporate them into the price. Yet another auto-oriented application released was the Nissan LEAF official Android app. With this, the driver will be able to see detailed specs on the life of their battery, set climate control, and even start the car remotely from your smartphone.

We always try to end Android Community Weekly with any promotions/deals/savings to help bring you closer to owning anything Android! Currently, Verizon Wireless is offering $50 off a tablet when you purchase any cellphone, and with the fastest service around – it may be worth your while. Also, don’t forget to check back for the final winners of TABLETPALOOZA! They will be announced this coming Monday, August 8.

Apple has issued notice of a recall of potentially defective 1 TB Seagate hard drives installed in iMacs sold between May and July of 2011. Apple has offered to replace the possibly defective drives free of charge until July 23, 2012.

The drives, installed in 2011-model iMacs in both 21.5 and 27-inch configurations, may fail under "certain conditions," which has led to the recall. If your iMac is one of those covered under the recall, you can take your iMac in to the local Genius Bar or set up an appointment with an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Apple will not replace your data for you, so to ensure you don't lose anything, make a full backup of your drive using Time Machine or another backup solution before taking your iMac in for service. Apple does recommend replacing the drive as soon as possible, so if you have one of the affected iMacs but haven't been backing up your data, you'd better start now.

Its advanced features aren't always easy to use and access, but they're worth the effort.

The drive's back-up features are excellent, offering a wealth of options and facilities such as incremental and differential backups, and wizards are available for both backing up and restoring data.

On the business side, you can connect up to 50 workstations. The Seagate Global Access service means files stored on the Black Armor NAS 420 can be accessed securely over the internet using a standard web browser.

Two of its four drive bays are populated out of the box and the drives are hotswappable, though the caddies and door are a little flimsy for a business-orientated NAS. You can configure your drives in RAID 0/1/5/10 and JBOD arrays, provided the necessary quantity of individual drives for the RAID array in question is met.

Although it's not designed for home use, iTunes and DLNA-compatible media streaming are catered for here.

The Black Armor NAS 420 includes good expansion options. It offers two Ethernet ports and four USB ports – three rear-mounted and one at the front. You can connect external hard drives for extra storage capacity and add a printer for sharing over the network.

This NAS drive is a little bulky, so ensure you have enough room to set it up. It's not too expensive, but home and more demanding business users should look elsewhere.

FreeAgent Pro drives work with 64-bit operating systems. The Seagate FreeAgent Pro range of external hard disk drives all function on 64-bit operating systems. However, the Microsoft Windows software utilities supplied with the drive are not 64-bit compatible.

The Seagate FreeAgent Pro range includes external hard disk drives with capacities of up to 1 terabyte (TB). The drives are usually used for system backup or to store libraries of data or media files. A 64-bit operating system, such as Windows 7 64-bit, is able to recognize the drive when you connect it to your PC, and allows you to move files between the device and the hard drive on your computer. The bundled software will only work with 32-bit versions of Windows. If you plan to use a FreeAgent Pro hard drive with your 64-bit system and have no intention of utilizing the bundled software, you should experience no functionality problems. If you wish to use the software utilities, it would be better to buy a more recent drive from the FreeAgent range, which includes 64-bit compatible software.
