Downloading Ringtones From the Internet

Along with the increasing demand for the latest ringtones, the number of websites offering the latest melodies over the Internet has also soared. Every website tries to outdo each other in their quest to obtain and retain customers with innovative products and marketing strategies.Cell phone users have many options to download ringtones from the net. The higher end mobile phones having the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) function helps a customer to surf the Internet directly in easy steps and get their choicest melodies downloaded as ringtones of his mobile phone. But this service is chargeable and is more costly than surfing the internet for a ringtone through other means like wi-fi or cable internet connections. The speed is also on the lower side, but the advantage is that it is safer than the other means from virus and trojan attacks.Another trend, especially among the youth, is to download melodies directly from the kiosks owned and serviced by mobile service providers themselves. The added advantage here is that in addition to the downloading facilities, there will be a customer care executive always available to advice and help the not so well informed customer.Sharing ringtones and other files between two cell phone owners is also common. Here, infra-red or Bluetooth wireless connection is used. The difference between the two is that infra-red wireless connection range is somewhat less in comparison with that of the Bluetooth. Infra-red technology, which is getting outdated and outmoded, can transfer tones or any data only if the recipient and the sender hand sets are compatible to each other. A comparatively modern technology, the Bluetooth has a longer range and there is no need to align the sender and recipient cell phones.Along with the advantages of getting tones downloaded from the Internet, a host of security problems have also cropped up. Viruses and Trojans are big dangers. A customer needs to be extra-cautious and judicious while buying or downloading ringtones free of cost. However, with the advent of latest functions and capabilities in hand sets, people can download and customize their ringtones easily and safely. But the threat of viruses will always be present necessitating utmost caution from the user whenever he wishes for a new tone. There is also the added threat of getting your hand set hacked by innovative but unscrupulous elements. Irrespective of the level of advancement of technologies, the attacks by the malicious viruses and hackers will never cease. Then there are some who sell pirated music as ringtones to unsuspecting customers. The practice can do untold harm to both music and ringtone industry as it can wheel away a substantial chunk of the revenue generated by the real owners of the music tracks, which in turn can dampen the growth of the industry. It is illegal too.Another hazard is the hidden charges levied by service providers for downloading a ringtone. There is always a possibility of your credit card information leaked out by individuals looking for easy money. However, the real joy of having up to date ringtones in your mobile phone and getting noticed though them is so great that these drawbacks has not prevented cell phone users from browsing the Internet and downloading their choicest music for their mobile phones on a regular basis. How To Download Ringtones Online Safely

There are lots of websites that offer ringtone downloads. However, mobile users face the risk of contracting a trojan or virus if they download ringtones online. In addition, there are other serious risks involved: hidden charges from downloading a ringtone and the possibility that your credit card information will be hacked by fraudulent individuals. Those Internet sites that require your credit card information should not be trusted that easily to avoid getting your credit card information stolen. Though there are legitimate sites that offer free download of ringtones, these ringtones are usually single tones only. Also, the choices of mobile users are very limited from these websites.Mobile users have other options to download ringtones. One, they can do it through the Wireless Application Protocol or WAP function of their mobile phone. The WAP function is designed to provide convenience to mobile users. With just a few strokes of the fingertips, a mobile user can surf the Internet.Usually, a mobile user is charged per connection time to the WAP Internet. It is more costly than surfing for a ringtone through cable or wi-fi internet connections. The surfing and downloading speed is also slower. The convenience of the mobile Internet, on the other hand, can not be disregarded. Safety from virus and trojan attacks is also offered aside from free browsing when the website of the mobile service provider is accessed. Two, mobile users also have also the option to download ringtones directly from the kiosks of mobile service providers. Mobile kiosks are available in wireless centers for use by mobile users. These kiosks do not only offer downloads of ringtones; wallpapers, themes and other services can be accessed from these stand-alone customer service machines. If mobile users have no idea of a particular service, a customer service representative is readily available to assist and explain the service.Mobile users can also download ringtones from other mobile users through the infra-red or bluetooth wireless connection. Infra-red wireless connection is shorter in range compared to bluetooth. Also, infra-red requires necessary alignment of the source mobile phone to the recipient mobile phone for transfer. The bluetooth, on the other hand, is a newer technology that has a wider range and there is no necessary alignment to be done.As newer functions and capabilities of mobile phones are introduced, we can be assured of more convenience in store for mobile user. However, even if the technology gets more advanced, trojan, virus and hack attacks will never disappear. So, even there are lots of options available for mobile user to be able to download ringtones online, extra caution should be observed at all times.
