Apple engineers have made contact with iPhone 4S users who have complained about experiencing short battery life on the new iPhone 4S.</div>

Some new iPhone buyers have seen a 10 per cent drop in battery life each hour, when the device is in standby mode, with Apple's guide suggesting it should last for 200 hours.</div>

Engineers for the company have reached out to those affected and attempted to install a diagnostics file in order to seek out the root of the issues.</div>

One user told the Guardian that the problem persisted even with Siri (suspected by some to be the culprit) and location features switched off.</div>

"I extracted the file from my Mac after a sync and emailed it to him. He was incredibly helpful and apologetic in the typical Apple way!"</div>

While some users have blamed the poor battery life on Siri, others believe it is due to corrupted contact files.</div>

Apple contacts iPhone 4S users about battery drain

Apple engineers have made contact with iPhone 4S users who have complained about experiencing short battery life on the new iPhone 4S....

<img src="http://cdn.mos.techradar.com///classifications/computing/mobile-computing/Tablets%20and%20touchscreens/apple-ipad1-200-200.jpg"><br /><P>The <EM>Guardian </EM>is to drop its current iPod application in favour of a subscription-based one, with details of the change posted on the newspaper's website.</P><br /><P>On a blog, the <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/help/insideguardian/2010/dec/02/apps-iphone">Guardian explains</A>: "The new app will have a new price point: £2.99 for six months and £3.99 for 12 months."</P><br /><P>This type of subscription-based app is not something that's currentlyavailable on the App Store, so it seems that it has outed a feature which will be an update to Apple iOS 4.3.</P><br /><P>Considering <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/computing/apple/hands-on-ios-4-2-review-910375">iOS 4.2</A> was only just released this month, the next iteration of iOS will probably be a rather minor update.</P><br /><P><STRONG>IOS4.3 imminent?</STRONG></P><br /><P>The <EM>Guardian </EM>says that this change will happen globally pre-Christmas so it seems that the UK release date of Apple iOS 4.3 is imminent. </P><br /><P>It has also announced that an iPad app is in development, saying: "We're still working through the final features but, as always, we're aiming high and hoping to steal a march on the current news-oriented iPad <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/apps">apps</A> already available. </P><br /><P>"We'll reveal more details about this soon." </P>
