Skype logoYesterday we reported that Skype has been officially acquired by Microsoft, and while it’s only been a day it looks like Microsoft has already released new versions of its Skype software. The new versions of Skype 5.5 and Skype 5.6 now no longer offer any third party tools or offers from one of Microsoft’s biggest rivals, Google. An understandable move, but let’s hope this doesn’t mean that Microsoft will bundle its own tools or offers with Skype in the future. Nobody loves bloatware.
Fortunately the removal of third party products wasn’t the only improvement to Skype. The update also plugs a memory leak for Skype’s Firefox plugin, as well as fixes an issue that causes the app to crash when running on Windows 8 Developer’s Preview. You can expect to see a lot more Skype being integrated into future versions of Microsoft products in the future.
