Beluga says goodbye

If you’ve been using Beluga, the service that lets you easily keep in touch with your friends and family via a group-based messaging app, we’ve got some bad news for you. The company has announced today on its official blog that it will be closing down the service for good. Starting from November 11 onwards, the service will cease to function (in fact I can’t even find it on the Android Market at this time of writing). But for those of you who want to archive all your old messages – you’ll have until December 15th to retrieve them because they will be deleted the following day. Beluga even has an archiving tool to help you get the job done.

Seeing how Facebook acquired the service back in March, and the fact that the latest Facebook Messenger app was developed by the same team that created Beluga and contains the same features, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Well, at least we’ll get to see the Beluga whale live on in the colors of the Facebook logo. Beluga, it was nice knowing you.
