Insert another blank DVD-R into the drive and see if the drive reads it. A single faulty DVD-R is a far more common cause of a failure to read a blank DVD-R than is a faulty drive. If multiple DVD-Rs are still failing to read in the burner, some additional troubleshooting is required.

Restart the computer. A common cause of failure to read a blank DVD-R is that the burner's motor does not spin the DVD-R. That can indicate a catastrophic failure of the DVD burner but can sometimes be resolved by a restart. After the restart, attempt to read a few blank DVD-Rs again.

Insert the CD that came with the burner and follow onscreen prompts to reinstall the software drivers for the DVR 108. For the DVD burner to work properly, it requires effective communication between the computer's burning software and the hardware components of the drive itself. One possible explanation for a failure to read blank DVD-Rs is that there is a problem with the burner's software. If reinstalling the drivers doesn't work, the drive will likely need to be serviced or replaced.
