Go to www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and download iTunes software. It is free, even if you are a PC user and do not own Apple products, such as an iPod. Install and then open iTunes.

Click "Music" under the "Library" section found on the left side of your iTunes screen. If you are using iTunes for the first time, your Library will be empty. Open the folder on your computer's hard drive which contains the music files you'd like to rename. Drag them into your iTunes Library.

Select a song that you'd like to rename by going to the File menu and selecting "Get Info." Click on the Info tab and fill out all appropriate information. Rename the song, and enter any other pertinent information such as the year it was recorded, the name of the artist and album, the name of the composer and the genre of music.

Click on the "Artwork" tab. Look up the album artwork for the song you just renamed. A good source for album artwork is rateyourmusic.com. Copy the album artwork image file, which will usually be a jpeg image, and paste it in the center box of the Artwork tab and click "OK." Your renamed file will appear in iTunes, which arranges songs into columns, starting with the name, running time and artist.
