Pick your design for the drink coasters and open it in an image editing software program, such as Photoshop, Pixelmator or GIMP. Scale the image to the size you want your drink coaster to be. If making a circle, crop the image into a circle to make sure the image prints correctly.
Transfer the resized coaster image to a new file and click "Print." In the Print Options window, click the "Paper Type" menu. Select the cardstock from the drop-down list of paper types. Information on the cardstock you are using can be found on the packaging. It is important to change this option because the printer prints more ink onto the cardstock to make sure the image does not bleed.
Print a sample coaster to ensure the picture comes out correctly. If it doesn't, change the color settings or readjust the sizing of the image. When you are happy with the picture, multiply it to print several images on one sheet. This avoids wastage of cardstock when printing.
Cut out your drink coasters when they have been printed. If you are using a craft knife to cut out the coasters, be sure to keep the blade sharp. Paper blunts blades quickly, and a blunt blade can be dangerous.
