Hacking is a big problem in the internet world and threatens our privacy. Once you think about all the information you disclose on the internet it becomes a very big problem. Ford Motor Company's next generation of Ford Sync will come complete with Wi-Fi access and a built-in browser in properly equipped cars. This luxury technology offered by Ford will is said to become available in the 2011 Ford Edge and the 2011 MKX Lincoln models near the end of this year. SYNC features include but are not limited to hands-free calling, 911 assist, news, sports weather, business search and audible text messages. The technology was first introduced in 2008.
In an effort to keep the privacy of its customers Ford has worked on improvements to the systems important security features. In order to protect the Wi-Fi network it will use WPA2 encryption by default along with firewalls and anti-malware protection. Ford is working on making Wi-Fi a standard option on its entire fleet of vehicles within the next five years. This will certainly be an appealing feature for a country that is becoming more and more connected to the internet.
Ford has stated that they have not encountered any security problems with the systems as of yet. The security is a precautionary measure as they want to be sure that Ford customers are completely safe from potential hacking attacks. The system is meant to protect against any possible drive by downloads and any other form of computer attacks that are possible. In car systems are starting to be just like a home network with advancing technology.
