Notebook Data Recovery
Figuring out where the problem lies.Determine whether the problem is due to corrupt software on the hard drive (the operating system, for example) or a problem with the integrity of the drive itself. In most cases, running a disk utility program can confirm (and often repair) the problem.
Get your hands on a data recovery software package.Attach an external hard drive to the notebook computer in case the disk utility program is able to recognize the internal hard drive. You'll want to be able to copy the important files to the external drive as soon as possible, starting with the most important files. Some data recovery programs take several hours to perform this process, so be prepared to leave things running overnight or possibly longer.
Removing the drive from the notebook computer and installing it into a hard drive case (essentially making it into an external drive) is an effective way to recover the data. This is particularly helpful when trying to access the drive hasn't been successful while installed in the notebook.
Professional data recovery can be extremely expensive.Calling in the pros is usually a last-ditch attempt to salvage the data. Understand that these services are never cheap, and should be used only instances where the data is extremely important or when money isn't an issue.
