Insert the Internet service provider software CD-ROM into the CD drive of the computer. When the application pops up on the screen, follow all directions and then click "Install." Wait for several moments as the software scans for previous versions of the programs on the computer and then installs itself.
Set up the equipment that comes with the service, which may be just a modem or a modem with a wireless router. Run the enclosed cables to their proper destinations. The phone line cable will plug in to the wall, and then plug into the modem. If there is no wireless router, there will be an Ethernet cable.
Plug the Ethernet cable into the router, and then into the Ethernet port of the computer. Wait for the computer to recognize the router and connect to the Internet. Plug the second Ethernet cable into the wireless router instead, if one was included.
Click the "Connect to" tab in the Start Menu of the computer. In the Connection interface, select the wireless network (this will be named with the brand of the wireless router) and double-click to connect.
