How Google is betting big on iPhone X's most-talked about feature for Android P [ad_1]

NEW DELHI: Apple iPhone X, when launched, shot to fame not just because of its full screen design but also because of its famous 'notch'. Now, it looks like that 'notch' has caught the attention of Google in a big way. So much so that the firm is likely to embrace it with Android P, the upcoming Android OS that will be hitting the smartphones later this year.

There is no secret that Google is already working on Android P. Some OEMs have even confirmed it to arrive in their handsets. A new report from Bloomberg reconfirms these claims and suggests that Android P will be designed keeping in mind the Apple iPhone X's 'notch' on top of the screen. This means we are likely to see more Android handsets with the 'notch' on their displays this year and going forward.

The report adds that Android P will also have a tighter integration with the Google Assistant and will improve the battery life of device even more. Third-party app developers will also be able to integrate the AI in their apps, making the entire function smoothly.

Unlike iOS 11, which was more focused on internal improvements, Google's focus could be more towards the cosmetic changes in Android P. For now, the version is being called as 'Pistachio Ice Cream' internally, however, this may not be the official name of the OS.

Android-creator Andy Rubin has a similar notch-like feature in his company's Essential Phone. Huawei is being said to be working on a similar design as well. But more OEMs could borrow this feature this year.

Google's upcoming Android P, according to a recent report could mean the end of voice-recording apps. The OS version is said to feature an inbuilt voice recorder that would leave a beeping tone after every 15 seconds when recording while on a call. This tone will be heard by both the parties.

Recently we also saw Unicode 11.0 revealing as many as 157 new emojis, which are likely to arrive as a part of Android P.
