A lot happened in the tech world this week, starting from some cool smartphone launches to YouTube tightening rules around what channels can be monetized.

Honor 9 Lite

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei's sub-brand Honor launched its first smartphone of the year this week. Called Honor 9 Lite, the smartphone sports a starting price tag of Rs 10,999 and is exclusively available on Flipkart. The highlights of Honor 9 Lite are its design and quad-camera setup. The smartphone boasts of a dual-glass unibody and has a 13MP+2MP camera setup on both front and back. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system and is powered by the company's own Kirin 659 octa-core processor. It offers 5.65-inch bezel-less display and is backed by 3,000 mAh battery.

Oppo A83

In another smartphone launch this week, Chinese smartphone maker Oppo too expanded its budget smartphone range in India with the addition of Oppo A83. The smartphone is priced at Rs 13,990 and is available at all the leading stores in the country, both online and offline. The smartphone boasts of a 5.7-inch FullHD display and is powered by MediaTek 6763T processor. The device runs Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and offers 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. It comes with a 13MP rear and 8MP front camera and houses a 3,180 mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy On 7 Prime

Days after teasing its Galaxy On7 Prime smartphone, Samsung has finally launched the device in India. The smartphone is exclusively available on Amazon India website and it comes with a starting price tag of Rs 12,990. The smartphone runs The Android 7.1.1 Nougat-based smartphone features a 5.5-inch full-HD and is powered by the company's own Exynos 7870 processor. The device packs a 13MP rear and front camera and is backed by a 3,300 mAh battery.

OnePlus credit card ****



Several OnePlus customers reported unusual credit card transactions after buying products from the company's shopping website. This was revealed when some of the company's customers revealed this on OnePlus forum. Some other also vented out their anger on Reddit. Most of the affected OnePlus customers also voted on a poll created by the OnePlus forum moderator. As per the poll, all those who voted, 32.4% (143 members and counting) witnessed fraudulent transactions. OnePlus has responded to users claims and said that it is investigating the issue.


Apple update


Apple iPhone users, you are set to get another big feature in Apple's 'next big' iOS11 update. In an interview to ABC News, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the company will release a feature in iOS update next month that will allow users to disable intentional battery slowdowns. This means the iOS update will give users better visibility into the the health of their iPhone's battery. The update is expected to come in developer beta by February this year.This means public release likely to follow sometime in March.




YouTube content creators


Another big news of the week comes from YouTube. The company has tightened rules around what channels can be monetized. The company revealed that now the channels on YouTube will need to have at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of annual watch time to be eligible for ads. Previously, channels became eligible for ads as part of YouTube Partner Program by racking up 10,000 views or more. YouTube also said that will more closely watch out for spam, abuse flags and other signals to make sure channels are following Google-owned video-sharing platform's policies on content. YouTube is also providing advertisers simpler controls regarding where ads appear and transparency including safety checks by outside parties
