NEW DELHI: The photo and video-sharing app Instagram has now started showing other users when you login to the app. This new feature also allows other Instagram users to know what your Instagram friends are doing in the app. Although this feature is switched on by default, it shows your friends how many hours ago you logged in, something that you may not want others to know. This means instead of telling the hours or minutes you have been online on Instagram for, it will only say 'Active Now'.
One can see this feature inside the Instagram Direct Messages app. However, this is only visible to those who you follow. If they follow you too they will also be able to see the activity status.
Although this is a good way to keep a check on your friends, it might be irritating for the other party. Thankfully, it is easy to switch off this feature, keeping yourself away from those who are just waiting for you to go online.
So how do you get rid of this feature? Here's an step-by-step guide:
- Open the Instagram app and tap on the corner gear or three dot icon to enter the Settings page.
- Scroll down and search for the "Show activity status" option.
- Toggle the option off and voila, you're done.
Users can also see Instagram explain you the feature under the "Show activity status" option. The description says "Allow accounts you follow and anyone you message to see when you were last active on Instagram apps. When this is turned off, you won't be able to see the activity status of other accounts."
Instagram keeps testing new features in its app. Recently it started testing a new feature with limited users using which you can post Instagram stories on WhatsApp as a 'Status'. The new feature allows users to post decorated photos, videos and GIFs on WhatsApp that disappear after 24 hours.
