Samsung: Samsung gave the Galaxy Note 8 smartphone to passengers of this airline

South Korean tech giant Samsung has made what can be termed as an innovative promotional statement with its latest flagship phablet Galaxy Note 8.
The company distributed the handset to 200 passengers travelling on a flight number IB 0513 of Iberia Airlines travelling from La Coruna to Madrid Barajas. According to a report by CNET, the company handed out a message that translated to: "A year ago we asked you to turn it off, we welcome you today on board."
The corporate vice president of Samsung Spain, Celestino Garcia, was also travelling on the flight, tweeted about this.
Just to remind the readers, the Galaxy Note 7 faced a major debacle last year due to its faulty batteries resulting in overheating and in some cases exploding. This was followed by Samsung recalling over 2.5 million handsets all over the world and many airlines banned carrying the handset in the flights. Indian aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) banned the inflight carriage of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in flights operated by all Indian carriers.
Due to this reason, Samsung has used a smaller sized battery for this year's Note 8 compared to the Note 7. For those unaware, the Galaxy Note 8 comes with 3300mAh battery, which is 200mAh lesser than the Galaxy Note 7.
Priced at Rs 67,900, the Galaxy Note 8 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS and features a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ (2960x1440 pixels) Super AMOLED 'Infinity' display. The device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, clubbed with 6GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage which can be expanded further by adding a microSD card.
It is also the company's first to sport a dual-rear camera setup. The rear camera includes two 12MP sensors. The primary camera has a wide angled lens with f/1.7 aperture, while the secondary camera includes a telephoto zoom lens with f/2.4 aperture. At the front, there is an 8MP selfie shooter with f/1.7 aperture. It is also the first to sport dedicated OIS for each rear cameras.
The device comes equipped with a fingerprint sensor, facial recognition and iris scanner along with this it also offers support for Samsung Pay, which was launched by the company earlier this year.

Samsung's 'most-expensive smartphone' launched so far
In the US, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8's base variant is priced between $930 (roughly Rs 60,000) on T-Mobile and $960 on (roughly Rs 62,000) on Verizon. This makes the smartphone company's costliest phone so far. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 launched at base price of $834 (varies from carrier to carrier), while Samsung Galaxy S8+ launched at base price of $840. Though Note 8's India pricing is not out, it is very likely to be in line with the global pricing.
At 6.3-inch, the display is bigger than that of Samsung Galaxy S8+
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 sports a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ (2960x1440 pixels) Super Amoled 'Infinity' display with 521ppi. The screen size is tad-bit bigger than the Galaxy S8+. Rest of the specifications are same.
Sports Qualcomm's top-end processor, however, India variant likely to have Exynos processor
The handset is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, clubbed with 6GB LPDDR4 RAM. In some countries, the phablet will be launched sporting an octa-core Samsung's own Exynos series processor. India variant is most likely to have Exynos processor. The India variants of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ too are powered by Exynos series processors.
First Samsung smartphone to sport dual-camera set-up
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the first smartphone from the company to sport dual-camera set-up. The rear camera setup includes two 12MP sensors. While the first one is a wide angled lens with f/1.7 aperture, the secondary camera includes a telephoto zoom lens with f/2.4 aperture. At the front, there is an 8MP f/1.7 aperture shooter. Samsung also says that both the rear cameras come with OIS or Optical Image Stabiliser.
At 3300 mAh the battery capacity is slightly less that last year's model
Backed by a 3300mAh battery, the Galaxy Note 8 supports wireless fast charging tech. The battery capacity is 200mAh lesser than what was found in the Galaxy Note 7 last year.
Comes in three storage variants: 64GB, 128GB and 256GB
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 base models comes with 64GB inbuilt storage. Two other variants come in 128GB and 256GB as well. The device additionally supports a microSD card for expanded storage.
S Pen gets new features
As for the stylus, Samsung has introduced an 'enhanced' S Pen that can take notes in 'Screen off' memo or quickly annotate documents and photos. It has a finer tip and improved pressure sensitivity.
Gets new Live Messaging feature
The company has also introduced Live Messages that lets you handwrite a message, add special effects and share it as an animated GIF.
Samsung DeX gets new features, including screen-sharing
Samsung has improved its DeX capabilities for the Galaxy Note 8. Users will now be able to continue video chats while docking the handset on to the DeX. Sharing screens while video chatting are also possible using the phablet.
