New details on Microsoft's 'foldable' tablet revealed [ad_1]

NEW DELHI: Previous patent filings have already given us hints that Microsoft is indeed working on a foldable device. But Windows Central has unearthed some new information about the particular device.

According to the report, the prototype device is being called as 'Andromeda'. It is a foldable tablet of sorts that becomes "pocketable" when folded. It has been also mentioned that the device runs Windows 10 built with Windows Core OS along with CShell. Details on CShell are scarce at the moment. However, it might be playing an important role in the 'foldable' aspect of the tablet.

Furthermore, the foldable tablet could come with telephony abilities. This, along with the foldable design, is likely to pit it against large screen smartphones or phablets. However, the report says that the device is not meant to replace smartphones.

Taking cues from the Surface devices, this new 'foldable' tablet is also said to get a stylus. The notebook app-powered by OneNote will also mimic writing on a real notebook. Since it runs Windows 10, it is likely for the device to come with a Start screen and runs apps like Microsoft Edge or Photos.

It has not been mentioned when Microsoft plans to bring the device in the market or if it is even planning to do so. Nonetheless, the concept itself will be giving birth to a new device category in itself.

Microsoft few days ago officially cut the chords from the smartphone business. The company's Vice President Joe Belfiore took to Twitter to confirm the news. He said that the company will no longer focus on Windows 10 Mobile features and hardware. He further added that the company will help the end user if they wish to shift from Windows to Android or iOS operating systems.

The company will no longer introduce new features to the OS but it will still roll out security patches and bug fixes for the enterprise market that still rely on Windows 10 Phone.
