Play Store: Consumer commission asks BSNL to pay Rs 40,000 to customers [ad_1]

PANAJI: The Goa State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission dismissed BSNL's appeal and upheld the order of a subordinate consumer forum that ordered it to pay compensation of Rs 40,000 to a consumer from Taleigao for deficiency in service after he was left without a phone and internet connection.

Atish Mandrekar, a resident of Taleigao, approached the consumer disputes redressal forum in South Goa stating that the landline phone was out of order and he couldn't use the broadband internet facility from January 19 to February 4, 2013.

BSNL had challenged the order of the forum before the state commission.

BSNL "neglected, to rectify the deficiency, the order stated, adding that "it is the lame defence of the opposite party (BSNL) that since there were breaches in the cable at multiple places occasioned due to the trenching work carried out by the PWD of the government of Goa, the fault was of PWD.

"The consumer is entitled for uninterrupted continuous service since he has been paying for the same. The lack of action on the part of the opposite party did amount to deficiency in service,, the order passed by justice U V Bakre and Vidhya Gurav, member of the commission stated.

BSNL to offer ultra fast 1,000 mbps broadband services

Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha today launched a next generation optical fibre-based technology on BSNL network that will enable the state-run firm to provide broadband connection with download speed of up to 1,000 mbps.

Mandrekar stated that he had ailing parents who heavily relied on the telephone facility and suffered tremendous professional loss, disrespect and humiliation.

BSNL revealed that the telephone cable was damaged during excavation for the laying of sewerage pipe work which was being carried out by the PWD in Taleigao panchayat area.

The commission confirmed the order of the forum including the cost of Rs 10,000. Stating that there was no merit in the appeal, the commission dismissed it with costs of Rs 2,000 to be paid by BSNL.
