LG V30's UX 6.0+ officially detailed, secondary screen to be replaced by a ‘Floating Bar’ [ad_1]

NEW DELHI: Once again LG has revealed a new set of features for its upcoming flagship phablet device, the V30. The South Korean tech firm, like last year and the year before it, has been pre-announcing different features of the device since past few weeks. This time, it has given details on the V30's user interface, which it calls as the UX 6.0+.

As one can expect, the UX 6.0+ will be debuting with the LG V30. The firm says the new UI version has been further optimised to work in tandem with the 18:9 OLED 'FullVision' display. The entire UI has been tweaked with more rounded icons, including the Google Search bar on the home screen. The Weather widget has also been revamped.

One of the most notable features seen in the UX 6.0+ is a new Floating Bar, which peeks out from one side of the screen. You can tap on it to expand the bar and easily access apps for taking down notes, opening the calendar, contacts, settings and other recently used functions. If it's bothering your view, the bar can be completely dragged off the screen.

The semi-transparent Floating Bar is replacing the missing secondary display in the upcoming LG V30. For those unaware, LG has already revealed the display details of the V30. While the Floating Bar makes it easier to access apps, what users might be missing will be the notification alerts, which in LG V10 and V20 were shown inside the secondary 'ticker' display but never really interfered with the main view.

Besides the Floating Bar, LG also details an enhanced Always-On display, which now is more customisable than before. Now, it not just shows the clock but can also show Quick Tools, Music Player or a personal photograph.

LG has always kept the camera department ahead of everything else in its V-series. This time, to revamp the camera photography, LG has introduced Graphy, a feature that will be found inside the V30's camera mode. Graphy will let users choose a portfolio of professional shots, using their styles and moods. They can also download photos taken by professionals from the Graphy website or mobile app and add those image's metadata presets on their own images. This includes white balance, shutter speed, aperture and ISO. "Different shooting modes such as auto, grid shot, snap shot and match shot are conveniently grouped under one menu for ease of selection," says the blog post. Options to access GIFs and a Quick Video Editor will also be there.

As for the security, LG has unveiled that the V30 will use Face Recognition via the front-facing camera to unlock itself. This will work even when the smartphone's screen is switched off. Even the voice recognition, the phablet will use a combination of user's voice and self-generated keywords to unlock itself. LG says the technology is supported by "Qualcomm Aqstic voice UI technology for always-on, always-listening capabilities that requires very little battery power."

While all of this sounds impressive, at least on paper, we are yet to see how it works in real life. LG will be launching its V30 at the pre-IFA 2017 trade show on August 31. The IFA 2017 starts from September 1 and will go until September 6.
