NEW DELHI: Google's Nexus 6 smartphone, the one made by Motorola, was given Android 7.1.1 Nougat update in March. However, the search giant pulled the plug on the update as it came with certain bugs. Now, after five months, Google has once again started rolling out Android 7.1.1 Nougat to Nexus 6 smartphones.
As spotted by Android Police, the update weighs roughly 368MB and includes 'critical bug fixes' as well. The description says "This update fixes critical bugs and improves the performance and stability of your Nexus 6. If you download updates over the cellular network or while roaming, additional charges may apply."
It is worth adding that Nexus 6 won't be receiving Android O this year as it has reached the end of supported life from Google. However, security patches will keep rolling out.
Back in March it was mentioned that several bugs were found in the Android 7.1.1 for Nexus 6, which were fixed in March's security update. However, the update broke Android Pay functionality.
Some Reddit users also revealed that apps on the Nexus 6 were crashing continuously after the downgrade and the device needed to be wiped to restore normal functionality.
One of Google's community managers responded to the linked Reddit thread, saying that the downgrade is meant to ensure guarantee future OTA updates.
"There was a recent OTA update for Android 7.0 that is causing confusion for some Nexus 6 users. For those of you that want guaranteed future OTA updates, you will need to get back on the 7.0 supported track. If you are experiencing issues after accepting the 7.0 update, please factory reset your device to help resolve any problems," the official said.
