2010 APRC runner-up Gaurav Gill will get another shot at the title.

MRF to switch to Fabia S2000 for APRC 2012

Team MRF will use Skoda Fabia S2000s in their pursuit for the 2012 APRC (Asia Pacific Rally Championship) title. The three time APRC champions have been competing using the Mitsubishi Evolution series for past 10 years and have decided to switch cars after last year's performance, as they lost competitive edge to Proton's Satria S2000. The Skoda Fabia S2000 is 300kg lighter than other cars in the category and has the distinction on winning the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) and SWRC (Super World Rally Championship) last year.

The S2000 Fabia is a purpose-built rally car which only shares the outer shell with the Fabia road car.  The S2000-spec rally cars are 1.6-litre naturally aspirated vehicles laced with high endurance parts for tough rally conditions. The Skoda Fabia S2000 is a four-wheel drive car with a rev-happy engine producing 270PS but with limited torque.

The 2010 APRC runner up, Gaurav Gill, will continue with the team, while his Japanese teammate, Katsuhiko Taguchi, will be replaced due to his contractual obligations with Mitsubishi.
