Unplug external peripherals, such as USB devices, before resuming the computer from hibernation. Plugged-in devices may cause problems with the hibernation function. You can plug them back in once the computer has started up. Also, do not plug in any new devices while the computer is hibernating. Update to the latest version of Windows XP. Service Pack 1 is known to have hibernation problems. Update to Service Pack 3 for the best results. Click the "Start" button, select "Control Panel," choose "Security Center" and enable automatic updates to ensure your computer is up to date. If your computer is up to date and no external devices are connected and it still will not resume from hibernation, you will need to restart the computer to bring it back from hibernation. Press and release the power button to restart it. You may lose any unsaved data. To determine if an out-of-date driver is the cause of the problem, run the Error Reporting tool to diagnose your system. Click the "Start" button, right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties." Select the "Advanced" tab and click "Error Reporting." Check the bubble to enable Error Reporting. This will let you know if a specific driver is causing a problem with your system.
