Examine the control panel of your home security system and see if it is equipped with Internet connection equipment. Typically, there will simply be an Ethernet port somewhere on the alarm system's button panel for a hard-line connection to a Ethernet networking device like a router or switch. If your alarm system does not feature this connection, you will need to upgrade to one that does.
Attach the Ethernet cable from one of the Ethernet ports on your networking device to the alarm system's Ethernet port.
Reset the Ethernet network by unplugging the power cord from the Ethernet networking device for 30 seconds and plugging it back in. This is an essential step because Ethernet networks will not recognize that a new Ethernet cable has been plugged into them until they have been reset.
Contact your security system service provider and inform it you are now using an Ethernet connection. Depending on your service, using this connection may make your subject to extra charges or service upgrades, so take a moment to contact your service provider to ensure your security system will fully function over the Ethernet connection.
