Why Does Microsoft Access Database Ask for a Password When Closing the Database?

Password security in Microsoft Access can create additional work.Password security remains one of the easiest and most popular methods of securing user databases in Microsoft Access. While not foolproof, it is convenient. Unfortunately, using a security password can require users to type the password multiple times.

When a user secures her database with a password and has the Compact on Close option turned on, whenever the database is shut down, the user will be prompted to enter the password.

If you would rather not use Compact on Close functionality in Access 2007, open the database you wish to change. Select the "Office Button" on the top left of the application window. In the bottom bar of the drop-down menu, select "Access Options."

 In the options list menu on the left, select "Current Database." A new set of selections will appear on the right. Under "Application Options," uncheck "Compact on Close." Hit "OK" and then save. Users can manually compact databases by selecting the "Office Button" and in the drop-down menu choosing "Manage," "Compact" and then "Compact and Repair Database." Select the "Database to Compact From" dialog box.

Pick the database you wish to compact and repair and then click the "Compact" button. Provide a new name for the compacted database in the "Compact Database Into" dialog box, then click the "Save" button.
