Kinect for Xbox Hits India for Rs. 9,990

Kinect for Xbox 360 that brings controller-free gaming to the living room got an enthralling response of over 1 million units sold in the first ten days. Today, Microsoft India has introduced Kinect for Xbox 360 for the Indian audience. Microsoft will offer Kinect in two editions - Standalone bundle and All-in-one bundle.

Microsoft announced that it will make the Kinect available officially from November 4 and today, after 20 days, it's being made available in India. Promising controller-free gaming fun with your family and friends, Kinect certainly offers a new perspective to gaming and entertainment. Read our hands-on with Kinect here. New Xbox 360 Slim owners can connect the Kinect Sensor directly. Old Xbox 360 console owners will have to make use of the power cable that comes with the bundle for connecting it.

The standalone Kinect for Xbox 360 unit along with Kinect Adventures disc would be sold for Rs. 9,990. All-in-one bundle with Xbox 360 Slim console and Kinect Sensor would cost Rs. 22,990. EETimes published a report that Kinect's Billing-of-Materials costs roughly around $56 and the Kinect Sensor is sold for $150 in U.S. while it's Indian price is Rs. 9,990 ($222 approx.). Sony has been selling PlayStation 3 console at a loss even till the February of this year.

Even when you add the manufacturing and packaging cost, the price difference still seems unjustifiable to many. After the Kinect Sensor is sold, Microsoft would be earning a significant amount from software (games and game licenses).

Keeping all the costing apart, Kinect indeed is a next-generation controller-free sensor that offers a good gaming experience to all age groups.
